New Spider-Man cartoon: Ultimate Spider-Man

I just saw on wikipedia that they have Adrian Pasdar down as playing Tony Stark. I actually really like that casting.
So any idea when we should start seeing some character designs for this online?

Interesting, since he's also voicing Stark in the US dub of the Marvel Anime version of Iron Man (with his Heroes brother Milo Ventimiglia voicing Wolverine). Marvel animation productions do have a way of reusing the same actors in the same roles even in distinctly separate continuities.

Wow. That looks like it is going to be really fun. I get a more kid-friendly/humorous vibe from it which is okay with me. Jonah's design reminds me of Classic Marvel Jonah! Yeah. I love the costume design.

I'm underwhelmed. The quality of Spidey's witty banter is rather lacking, at least in the selected clips. And I'm not sure I like the action. Spectacular Spider-Man had frenetic, fast-paced, crazy action scenes, but they were choreographed with great cleverness and imagination. Admittedly the image quality here was poor, and editing for the trailer may have been a factor, but the action scenes just seemed noisy and cluttered.

The actor doing Spidey (Drake Bell, IIRC) seems okay, though. I just hope he has better material to work with than these clips suggest.

It was a pretty short teaser that focused mostly on the action aspects and teasing the villains. I got the impression that this was just edited together quickly for D23.

I have read from interviews with Bendis that these are going to be original stories mostly with some influence from the Ultimate universe. The creative team involved and the talent has me confident this will be a fun series. Don't know if they can recapture the quality of "The Spectacular Spider-Man" but that may not be their goal either. Spectacular set the bar up high for Spidey animation. With both writing, animation, acting. It would be high to top. I have a feeling this is just develop to be it's own show and entertain kids and Spidey fans a like.

Well, of course it's trying to be its own show. It shouldn't do anything else. I just have yet to be convinced that it will be a good show. I wasn't saying it should do things the same way SSM did, just that I'd like it to do its own things as well as SSM did its different things.

And if Spidey's wisecracks make me go "That's lame" or "That's obvious" instead of "Ha-ha, that's funny and clever," then that's a bad sign. You're right that it's enough to be fun and entertaining, but that trailer didn't entertain me.

Was there really a toaster Spider-man in that trailer?

I hope they don't do "Teen titans" type of humor with giant anime heads and big eyes when they think.

It seems with "Spectacular Spider-man" and now "Ultimate Spider-man that each has a quality the other is lacking

Spectacular Spider-man

-Great story telling but the animation of character's is something to be desired. I didn't like just brown dots for characters eyes

Ultimate Spider-man

-Smooth looking animation of people but the humor might be gag worthy.

^ Considering this seems to be more kid friendly due to the Disney involvement I'm not surprised about the Spider-Toaster gag. I just hope that they handle the gags in a "traditional Spider-Man way".

I was able to accept that, mostly, in TT. I could learn to live with it in this if the show is good enough overall, and if it fits with the overall tone.

That's character design, not animation. Design is what they look like, animation is how they move. I didn't like the SSM character designs either (though my problem was more with the noses), but the animation was fantastic, full of dynamism and subtlety.

Heh, it looks ok. Definitely not Spectacular quality, but it looks like it could be mildly entertaining.
