Yes they are in the Prime Universe, but the Prime Universe is not the original continuity
Think about it, ST: 2009 was made under the Alternative Licence, yes?
But we saw the flashback scenes of Spock Prime in that movie didn't we?
So by definition the so called 'Prime Universe' is an aspect of the alternative licence or they wouldn't have been able to show those scenes
They had no rights to the original continuity. It's a clever slight of hand.
DISCO & Picard take place in the same Prime Universe as the Spock Prime flashback scenes in ST: 2009
Both the Prime Universe and the Kelvin Timeline are features of the alternative licence. Prime is simply closer to the original continuity than the Kelvin timeline
Does it matter? That's up to you
Patrick Stewart did say he had 3 Romulans on his crew in one interview. So probably.vulcan? Was not he a Romulan? I thought that he had crest

I see this bandied about this board all the time. Is there any kind of documentation for this? It seems like some posters have accepted this as conventional wisdom but I can’t find anything about it.
All signs point to the prime universe and original continuity being the same. A lot of what you’re saying here is a distinction without a difference.
Thank you for the link. Tired of this 25% nonsense. There isn't. This is all based on a John Eaves comment and the YouTube conspiracy theorists went ballistic. They freaked out because our beloved NCC-1701 wasn't an exact copy from its 1964 counterpart -- right down to the painted nacelle caps. And John Eaves said something, erroneously, about how it was stated it needed to be changed for legal reasons. This was followed up as being inaccurate and it was said that the Enterprise was slightly modified to be "modernized," because...it was 2018 and not 1964.

Brent Spiner has not aged as well as Patrick Stewart, there is only so much they can do. Just go with the "Data aging program" for your head canon.

Definitely Borg cube. Note the sign: "This facility has gone 5843 days without an assimilation". Love it!Is this a prison on a Borg cube?

They seem to be going back to TOS Style Romulans,...
Here hereNo. It. Doesn't.
Also, do you ever not complain about anything?
Also, to follow up on my above comment, I thought CBS and Paramount kept the films and TV series separate, but, the Star Trek: Picard trailer clearly proves I'm inaccurate. The trailer is nearly a full nod to Nemesis as well as the fallout from the events of Star Trek 2009 being a major point in the plot.
I could be completely mis-remembering this, but, I watched a lecture by Nicholas Meyer on YouTube *or I could have been reading an interview) -- though apologies, I can't recall which one it was -- and he was asked about the status of Khan mini-series and I remember him mentioning something to the effect of, it's on hold because it uses elements that were established in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, which Paramount technically owns. I don't believe CBS's ownership in the franchise is retroactive for the films, but, I could be wrong. I don't fully know what the division of ownership is outside of CBS owning the TV rights and Paramount maintaining the film rights. This could all be null and void, however, if that Viacom merger happens.
You're welcome! It took me all of ten seconds to find. When you consider the time it takes to find the truth versus the production time these conspiracy theorists spend putting these videos together, it's clear to me that the truth isn't on their agenda. They believe what they want and use it as ammo to discredit new Trek.Thank you for the link. Tired of this 25% nonsense.
The Countdown Comics that were 'prequals' to ST: 2009 were written from a storyline by Orci & Kurtzman and therefor produced under the alternative licence & they show the events in the Prime Universe up until Nero & Spock travel through time
Prime Universe can't be the original continuity because they didn't have a licence to do anything in the original continuity - all that remained exclusive property of CBS
At the end of the day it's about money. CBS had little interest in ST at the time, but they very much were interested in the income it generated. But at the same time Bad Robot / Paramount wouldn't put the effort in to make the movies if they couldn't market products based on it - hence the alternative licence
There has to be a visual difference between the 2 properties for that reason - who collects the merchandising money
No, no no and NO. Stop spreading this falsehood that has no PROOF attached to it.Prime Universe can't be the original continuity because they didn't have a licence to do anything in the original continuity - all that remained exclusive property of CBS

Actually, if you look up the sides on the right, on the bottom, and lower left, there's plenty of green lighting on the cube.
That's deeply fucking stupid
https://www.trekbbs.com/threads/com...isco-s2-spoilers.300524/page-27#post-13023469For fuck's sake, man. You honestly believe this shit?
Alright, been seeing a lot of needless hostility in these threads in dealing with posters of differing opinions...particularly on the subject of Discovery. Let's dial it back a bit.
