Not sure who you are referring to - are you confusing the human character with a beard with another Vulcan character.
Whilst it would be predictable, cheesy and very fan servicey, part of me wonders whether the series will end with him commanding a starship again with his new crew. I imagine it won't but I could picture it going that way. Sort of like Kirk post TMP.
As for the Borg, I'm definitely 'yay, they're back!' camp. It's a bit like the Daleks in Doctor Who. Yes, they're probably overused a lot of the time but they're iconic. Plus, we haven't seen them on screen properly since that Enterprise episode. I think they're due a return. I do wonder what their status in the show is though. Hugh looks like he's been kept in storage or something and the Cube seems to have been changed into a prison so I wonder how present they are in the universe.

See, I always thought it was tragic that Data was hellbend on becoming "more human" instead of becoming "more Data", that the lesson was not that Pinocchio doesn't have to become "a real boy" to be a valid person. I adored it when Picard told Data that he is a "culture of one", and really wish that sentiment would have stuck. Why is his enlightenment tied to the human experience, which he, by his very nature, will always be at least one step removed from and not an exploration of the android experience, in all its uniqueness?
Why? Why are they "due" a return? There is no obligation to revisit their story when we had two rather final blows to them.

Because he is built in human likeness. It makes sense for him to reflect his creator's attributes.

I can see how aesthetically it looks a bit like Discovery (although personally I never had an issue with Disco's visuals). I think it will be different to past series in terms of look and feel as TV has changed in twenty odd years. If we go from the end of Voyager then 24th Century Star Trek has had an even longer break than Doctor Who had when it came back in 2005. That felt very different to the last show that aired in 1989 and thus I imagine Picard will have a very different vibe to Endgame.
He isn't de-aged. its just spiner with make-up. Besides being older and fatter, it looks pretty normal when he speaks.
Surprisingly they did not get the contacts right. The werent that bright and big with such a small lens, but they looked like pretty normal pupils, just yellow. I mean, how difficult is it to look at a close up picture of Spiner as Data to see, how the contacts have to be!?
The de-aging actually went much to far. Even Spiner did not have such a smooth skin. They should concentrate on making it a little thinner and less on removing wrinkles.
Exactly. It's absurd to expect things to be static in Star Trek aesthetically.

I agree that Endgame was pretty final, but then (to use a Doctor Who analogy again as that's the only show that's really comparable to Trek in how long it's been around), the Daleks and the Cybermen have had countless 'final defeats' only to come back as they're fan favourites so it doesn't really bother me.
That being said, the Borg may not really be back in earnest. I wouldn't be surprised if the 'big bad' is something new. We've seen no fully functional Borg in the trailer, only 7 (who hardly counts), Hugh (who appears to be stowed away on a research facility) and what is probably a prison ship. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a red herring.
However, given that it's the first season of a new show, I could see them using the Borg as they're an established favourite and have a deep link to Picard. Disco's first season focused on the Klingons and the Mirror Universe after all.

Theyve definitely painted out wrinkles on his face. The crow's feet and bags under his eyes are gone, and much of his skin texture is missing in that area too.
All I see is Star Trek that’s made for 2020 instead of 1990. TNG changed a bit esthetically over its seven years on TV, and considerably more so in its four movies. If it had never stopped production, its recent seasons wouldn’t look like Encounter at Farpoint. That’s a good thing.
and it looks like a very early CGI job to boot as is often the case with trailers.
anybody got a screen cap of this? i haven’t spotted him...
There's a heavy digital clean-up happening there.
