New Picard SDCC Trailer

That it is.

After feeling months of crushing indifference to this, I'm getting interested now.

I am more excited for this "Picard" show than I am for Discovery.

Happy for you but this trailer hits all the buttons I hoped the show would avoid. I’ll still watch it, as I’ve watched all Trek up to now, but my already lukewarm feelings for the show have cooled further. Oh well.

Data came on screen and I went "yikes". He looks terrible in this, like someone made a shitty Data mask and pulled it over a face with the wrong bone structure. And this is a shot they felt confident to show in the trailer.

Brent Spiner has not aged as well as Patrick Stewart, there is only so much they can do. Just go with the "Data aging program" for your head canon.

Don't post here very often but always follow all the ST stuff very closely.

This may not be the most insightful or articulate comment I will ever make, it is however 100% heartfelt.

So, given that 12 hours ago we knew next to nothing about STP all I can say after that trailer is:

"Well, fuck me sideways....yeehaw!!!!!"
That's me too!

Hype Train, engaged!

They better keep Riker and Troi married. :shifty:

I didn't mind how Data looked, given that he's dead (for now). That said, hoping the make up is better than it was in Nemesis. It was horrible there.

There's nothing about the look of this I recognize. It's all been "Discovery"-ized.

The story looks like it.... "could" be good and interesting but it was pretty light in that front. But the most I took from it was just it didn't look familiar.

Only problem with that is that I hate the aging program nonsense with a burning passion. It's a cop out because having a human play a character that should be ageless over extended periods of time will get awkward down the line. But it makes no sense for Data to have an aging program and it just breaks my immersion/suspension of disbelief.

Glad I'm not the only one. I guess the shoe is on the other foot for me now :D

Except the character isn't supposed to be ageless in their pursuits. He is striving to become more human. Wouldn't an aging program, even in appearance, support that goal?

Of all the things the trailer annoyed me about Data aging is not one of them.

However, for me I'll always think of the Galaxy when I think of TNG. I never really got too attached to the Enterprise E.

We only saw the Ent E in a few movies whereas we saw the Ent D in 7 seasons of TNG. So it makes sense that we would associate TNG more with the D.

But I so hope we see Picard on a Galaxy class ship again. Fan service, sure but I don't care. It would be amazing to see again.

Just strays too far from the "formula" for me. I know people want new things, and there's nothing wrong with that, but it doesn't really feel like Star Trek anymore for me. It looks more like the Expanse or something.

Well, not every Star Trek show can be the adventures of the starship Enterprise. DS9 definitely departed from the formula of TOS and TNG and it was a great Trek series.

Picard may have a different "formula" and still be Star Trek if the philosophy of the show is right.

I just hope they don't over use the Borg like voyager did.

Well, we have not seen the Borg in years. This is an opportunity to revisit the Borg again and make them scary again. I hope the show does right by the Borg. I want to see the show really make the Borg a real threat again. Ideally, I hope the show drops the Borg Queen concept completely and returns the Borg to a single minded collective.

Jesus Christ, Surak and Kahless! Lower Decks as of now looks quite generic, but Jean-Luc might be finally heading a good ST show after a while!
many humans! I like Orion, but I always dislike seeing so many humans! They could have caitian or trill! 3 humans and 1 alien so bad !!!

There is no threat if Picard is facing them again. Sorry, it's too safe for my liking.

This. I think it would be quite like Data to want to mimic the aging process to be more like his friends/colleagues. Whilst the quality of the post-production may be better in the final series, I think the digitally de-aged Spiner requires as much suspension of disbelief as just having him as he looks now would have. Ultimately, in my opinion, it's a TV show and actors age (although evidently not Stewart and Ryan!) so I can live with characters looking older that shouldn't. I'd rather have an older looking Data than no Data at all.

Did we watch different trailers?

The look and aesthetic of the "ship" locations and such too me just looked too much like it was out of Discovery. Dark, mostly gray, huge empty spaces and lens flares, got to have them lens flares! Then there's the Disovery Spock-looking Vulcan guy we saw.

The look of it all didn't click with me. It doesn't look one bit like Star Trek.

Well, it looks like "new" Star Trek, which I don't like the look of as it looks like every other piece of Sci-Fi out there. Dark, grey and LENS FLARES!!!!
