New Making of TMP book

Argh I ordered mine on July 19th and haven't received it, yet. I also haven't received a single email from Creature Features ever.

I'm in Connecticut as well, and nothing heard from yet. I did place my order on October 13, so i kind of expect to be at the back of the bus. Having said that, if the print run was only 1,000, and they had copies to sell at the storefront, and assume working during the day to package and send out, how long can it possibly be to send out 800-900 copies?...i would think getting 100 out a day and to the post office would not be an insurmountable task, so one would think all copies would be mailed out be the middle of next week....

My copy arrived yesterday and I already finished the first third detailing the development and pre-production. Great stuff so far!

And only two typos... not bad! ;)

I would like to have had more information about the specific drafts and ideas (Bryant/Scott, Ellison, etc.) but the book is already several hundred pages long. So far, there seem to be some general themes:

-Robert Wise: the calm in the storm
-Gene Roddenberry: "Is there any way we can show some skin? No doubt humanity will be more comfortable with nudity in the future."
-Lee Cole: unsung genius
-Harold Michelson: "Who cares where the rec deck is? It's only a movie!"
-Robert Abel and Co.: "Don't worry, we can design X. And Y. And Z."
-Sam Nicholson: "You want us to build it how big?!?!" (in reference to the warp core lighting FX)

I'm being tongue in cheek, of course. It's just cool to finally have this book after so many years.

Ordered July 22, no email yet.

I ordered the same date Steve and I got my notification of shipping just today. Kind of makes me wonder if those getting signed copies is taking a little longer than those who don't. Of course that's assuming I was early enough to be one of the first 100. Pretty sure I was though.

I just checked -- I ordered July 18. My copy was signed, for whatever that's worth.

Creature Features is a tiny operation and the book is terrific. I'm sure they're working their tails off to get these books out.

I finally got a tracking number. Mine's on its way and I got one of the first 100. Can't wait to read something properly researched as opposed to some other recent Trek books of dubious scholarship.

No shipping email here either. But then, I only ordered yesterday after your guys' positive reviews. ;)

What does that mean?

Presumably a reference to Cushman's series on the making of TOS. He's made a number of claims that nobody's been able to verify, and his conclusions often run contrary to the facts that he does cite. For instance, he claims the series was actually successful in the ratings because it consistently got second place for its time slot, ignoring the fact that there were only three networks at the time and it was usually a distant second.

Ah, I see. I was waiting to get those until the one on season three came out, but you just saved me some money. Thanks.

^ It's not all dubious! He does have the support of many who were involved in the show. I think it's kind of unfair to brush the three books off based on a few claims that nobody has yet to verify. The same could be said of a number of other Trek non-fiction books. I personally have found These Are The Voyages to be quite entertaining reads. Several around here seem to have an agenda against Cushman but I'm not one of them. There is a lot of really good things in his books as well.

I for one am quite looking forward to Return to Tomorrow, which all indications lead me to believe has been a properly researched and verifiable source with trustworthy notability, unlike some other recent (self-)publications regarding the franchise.

I got my shipping notification this morning. Looks like it will take a few days to reach me on the East coast. As I recall, I placed my order in September.

I also received shipment notifications for These Are The Voyages Season 3 and this month's Eaglemoss starships, so it looks like my mailbox will be packed with Trek later this week...
