new Kirk poll

I'm with the "elderly and out of touch" contingent.

I'm 22 and even I like the idea of William Shatner....maybe not as the lead, but....damn it, why didn't J.J. Abrams simply do a Robert April story?

None of these guys have any resemblence in acting style or appearance to William Shatner.

Quinto looks like he could be Nimoy's bastard son.

They need someone with a vague resmeblence to Shatner; like Brandon Routh was to Christopher Reeve.

NONE of these guys come close to cutting it. They should go with a relative unknown.

FYI Damon confirmed he wasnt a contender because the Kirk actor/character would be in his 20s; that eliminates alot from this list.

I voted "Other." And since I haven't been to the BBS in several months, I will restart my campaign to get Peter Sarsgaard to play Kirk.

The more I look at him, the more I think Patrick Fleuger's the best choice.

Great call!

Well we can officially eliminate 2 names off this list.

Jensen Ackles has been contracted for another season of Supernatural for the 07/08 year. Hes too central to that show for them to eliminate his character so its unlikely he'll get cast as Kirk (given the 08 release date for ST).

Billy Crudup has been cast as Dr Manhatten in The Watchmen. They are aiming for an 08 release as well so its extremly unlikely he could do both films.

Source, please? I've been a HUGE fan of Alan Moore's book, and I've just never seen a way to effectively make Watchmen into a movie (maybe a multi-night MINISERIES, but a two-hour film? No way!)

I'd like to catch up on this news...

Jensen Ackles is the whole package. I agree with Cmdr Crichton - and he's got sci-fi pedigree. I wouldn't worry about series comittments interfering - and he'll be looking for a new project for the inevitable demise of Supernatural. It can't have many more storylines to work through.

Yet Supernatural will end by Spring 08. Trek will be well into production by then for its 08 release.

The timing doesnt work out.

Justin Chambers (Grey's Anatomy) could play Kirk, but with his TV responsibilities, he's not going anywhere. Any Paramount-owned shows that would let their actor pull a George Clooney and work 20-hours a day on two jobs?

Just a thought: I just watched the kinda silly summer movie "into the Blue" with Jessica Alba the other night. It struck me that Paul Walker from that film might make a decent Kirk, especially since they seem interested in younger, lesser known actors at this point. Still think the original Damon/Brody/Sinise rumors were the most interesting but apparently that's way off the table now.

I mentioned in the Sunshine thread that Chris Evans would be a great Kirk.

I'm going to also suggest two Ryans that would work:

Ryan Phillipe
Ryan Reynolds.

Phillipe is a versatile actor that's mature yet can play young.

Ryan Reynolds is mostly scene as hilarious but when he needs to he's a great action star. He was the only cool thing about Blade Trinity and he was kick ass in Smokin' Aces.
