New Frontier: Treason

Wasn't Turnabout it's own thing? Weren't there some inconsistencies (like Jellico's rank pips) that PAD explained away as the comic being its own thing?

How many ST episodes have featured incorrect rank pips? Lots!

I haven't read the mirror universe stuff yet. Does it work as the next story after Missing in Action? I thought that the mirror stuff only happened in the actual mirror universe and didn't affect the "regular" universe...
"Turnabout" made crucial use of the events and characters ofi the first NF "Mirror Universe" storyline, and continued the story arcs of many characters, especially Robin Lefler, Mark McHenry, Soleta and Morgan Primus. I expect these to be followed up in "Treason".

So, you haven't heard anything about PAD saying the comic is it's own thing?

And is that a "yes" to my question on whether the NF MU stories affect the regular universe? Is the Mac from the MU who appeared in "Turnabout" coming into the comic directly from one of PAD's MU stories that was in the anthology or the two other MU trades? Is "Turnabout" just a continuation of one of the MU stories?

As far as I can see, the two storylines converged in "Turnabout". The MU story seemed to reach a conclusion, and the regular NF storyline should pick up from the end of "Turnabout", with sufficient flashbacks to cover what non-comic-readers missed.

Awesome! I guess i'll make sure that I read the MU stories, then re-read Turnabout, and then dive into Treason when it shows up :). Thanks a lot for the info, Therin :bolian:

Makes sense that Treason will be taking place right after Turnaround. I just realized some of the Council Members found out that Robin is pregeant with Si Cwan's child.

the biggest and most egregious error in Turnabout was the fleet of Imperial Starfleet ships attacking the MU Excalibur instead of Alliance Klingon-Cardassian ships.

bugger rank pips.

Sorry for the uppage, but I've only just read the book (took 10 weeks to arrive :( ).

I enjoyed it, which is more than I can say for most recent Trek books. It was quite painful to see characters falling apart, which perhaps negates my original impression that the series had jumped ahead too quickly - evidently they had been built up sufficiently to create some empathy. It is depressing in some ways to see so many lives ended or ruined, but the book does at least have some positive notes.

I'm not so sure about all these superbeings, though. I understand the idea of throwing in TOS comparisons to show that the silliness is not without precedent, but that comes across to me as a bit too transparent. I had no interest in either of the major alien races that were introduced, and the bit about being able to breed with other races equalling a sign of potential greatness just didn't work for me at all. Morgan is also coming off a bit too much like Traveller Wesley, who I despised in the A Time TO series.

I was confused by a few references, which I assume were from the comic series, as I skipped that entirely.

Still, as I said, it was enjoyable. There were a few really memorable scenes, some laugh-worthy moments and I never knew what was coming next. I really hope it is not a long wait for the next installment.

^PAD is writing a new New Frontier book for release in 2010 (June I think) that will also be released in TPB just as Treason was. Treason is set to be re-printed as a MMPB just before the new book shows up. There is still, at this time, no announced title for the new book.

^ That's good news. Thanks.

So the MMPB will actually be in normal Trek book size and not make such a mess of my neat shelf arrangement (or of my wallet)? Bit too late for that, I suppose. :(

I shelve "Treason" next to my many hardcovers and the "New Frontier" short story anthology, "No Limits". You mean you skipped "No Limits" due to it messing up your shelving's appearance? ;)

Actually, I did skip it, but only because I already read a library copy and was unimpressed.

I have them by series, then in order of publication, so at least this one will sit at the end of the fiction Trek novels - for now.

Still, it's only slightly more annoying than the spine design changes between 1-6, 7-8 and 9+, which have already made a mess of their appearance to my ever-critical gaze...

You were unimpressed by No Limits? Damn, it's one of my favorite New Frontier books and my second favorite anthology (after Tales of the Dominion War). I've been hoping for some kind of follow up for the story "Redemption" in regards to the Redeemers but nothing yet thus far.

I didn't dislike it in the way that I have disliked many Trek books lately, but it just didn't really strike me as something I would want to read through several more times. Hence, I did not pay the quite inflated price that it was going for here.

I have every other New Frontier book (except one which I loaned out to somebody and never got back :( ) but have happily skipped the anthology and the comics.

To be honest, I haven't overly enjoyed the last few offerings. I used to "wait with baited breath" for each instalment, now I'm rather meh about it.

I used to have them by series until TOS and TNG overran their shelves. It was simpler to move some subseries of books (Double Helix, Captain's Table, etc) over with DS9 and Voyager than move two shelves worth of books over to the other case and double those up instead.
