New Doctor to be revealed on Sunday

I can only imagine Ghost Bones' reaction when James Gandolfini appeared on Sesame Street. I hear the children of America are to this day still traumatized.

More wilfull missing of the point. I'm on about the children. I wouldn't want 6 year olds hearing violent swearing when they try and find out more about the new Doctor Who, and that's undoubtedly what they'll come across. Why is this simple and reasonable point (unless people think it's fine for children to hear "fuck" and "cunt") so difficult for people to grasp?

I very much doubt many 6 year olds will have watched The Thick of It. Or be allowed to play on Youtube unsupervised to do their own research. Cos, y'know, they're six.
We can but hope, but this choice of actor won't help. It's foreseeable that they'll want to see who this new man playing their hero is, and it follows that some will then be exposed to some foul language.
And if they were, it's the end of the world how?

I think it's pretty deluded to think that children don't hear the words "fuck" and "cunt" regularly at school, unless they're very young. In which case they probably don't understand what they mean anyway.

Thank christ they didn't pick a woman.

You know I wasn't remotely interested in this whole debate but this attitude is seriously beginning to get up my nose. What you're saying is half of the acting professionals in the UK, no matter how consummate their performing skill, will be unable to perform in this role because of their gender.
Actually, I'm also glad, but for a different reason. THAT's what I'd want to see as part of the bomb that gets them around the "12 regenerations" limit, not just for the final incarnation..
Hm, that would certainly be interesting. But even better: a ginger female.

(unless people think it's fine for children to hear "fuck" and "cunt")

I do :). I think we live in a pretty weird world where we're more comfortable showing children scenes of horrific violence and death, than having them hear sounds people can make with their mouth.
So if you reproduced a child, you'd be perfectly comfortable for me to go up to it and yell "I'm sweating embryoes, you eff star star cunt! Kiss my sweaty ballsack! You're about as much use as a marsipan dildo, you big fucking prick! I call it custard cancer!" Or rather, for them to witness such a conversation.

It's called be a fucking parent and explaining to the kid that the Doctor is played by an actor, and that said actor did roles that aren't appropriate for children. For that matter, any parent worried that much about swearing, probably has or need content filters on the computer used by their kid.
Again, we can but hope, but it must be extremely difficult to bring up children innocent in this day and age, and this won't help.

Your concern for others would be a little more believable if you didn't have a signature that mocks the physically handicapped.

As I said: Parent you kids. That's all you have to do. Be a parent.

Well, obviously I'd be a bit iffy with some total stranger yelling at my kid like that. Wouldn't care about them overhearing rude words though. I don't think it's remotely corrupting. "Abrams" will be more of a swear word in my house than the word "cunt" ;).

Not only will kids be permanently scarred after discovering Capaldi's previous role with the effing and the jeffing, they'll also be horrified by the insane amount of Sweary Doctor memes that will surely appear on tumblr.

Horrified, I tell you. HORRIFIED. And scarred. What a senseless waste of innocent minds.

*sniff*

I think they should continue with the costume evolution they've given Matt Smith of late. Make Capaldi a Victorian Mad Professor type.

The more time that goes by since the casting and the more videos I see of him, the more excited I am. This is great.

But on the other hand, I have to wonder....did Moffat just go and cast a version of himself? I'm not saying all Scotsmen are alike but he and Capaldi do have similarities in the way they speak/act/riff etc.

Yeppers. Apples and oranges. Besides, any parent seriously concerned about this issue just needs to install parental controls on the TV and Computer. In short: Be a fucking parent. Stop relying on everyone else to do you gods-damn job for you.

peter capaldi is a great choice!

don't get the whole ''won't somebody think of the children!'' routine. other drs have appeared in more adulty shows and swore etc without this weird hypothetical bullshit coming up.

I was in the camp that wanted to see a woman...or at least a black actor in the role (time to shake the formula up) - but my third choice (especially if they did go with a white male) was an older actor*. And so I'm happy with the choice. And they more I think about it, the more I think Peter C. will be *BRILLIANT* in the role!

*(Now time for all the younger, post-2005 fans on the internet to piss and bitch and moan that the new actor is "Ewww!!! Too old!!!")

I wish I could get spoiler tags to work (I tried
and [spoilers], but no good, any advice?) - because, based on what we learned in the last finale, I have some speculation on what kind of Doctor that I think he *may* play - and why I think they went with THIS particular actor. Just to say that they may have wanted somebody to play a wider range of personalities...

I'd be more accepting of that angle if this wasn't the attitude. Cast the best person possible and that person just happens to be a woman or black? Alright, sure. It's possible.

Cast somebody simply because they're a woman or black? Reeks of "Right on!" political correctness.

Can you give me once instance where Matt Smith's Doctor had sex?

It is heavily implied that during the run between the Wedding of River Song and TNOTD that the Doctor had a full marital relationship with River, albeit not spelled out on screen.

That said, I don't think that can be classed as shagging about, she was his wife.

So people stop having sex after 50. Good to know. Not sure why that would stop him from having sex. Not that he has been known to have sex with anyone.

Not sure that makes any sense as a reply to my post?

I'm ecstatic Capaldi has been cast, I'd prefer if he didn't have another relationship as it would dilute what he had with River a bit, but nothing to do with his age.

LOL, :guffaw: Are you serious? What are 6 year olds doing running loose on the internet by themselves? There's much bigger danger out there on the internet, that the parents should be monitoring/preventing, that would naturally take care of this issue

In coincidence corner, Capaldi once played in a band with well-known DW fan Craig Ferguson, while his Oscar-winning short film (previously mentioned by someone else) Franz Kafka's It's A Wonderful Life, starred Richard E. Grant.

Pretty much all children by the age of 9 have heard "fuck" or "cunt" at school. And in the UK, if you're a child and you've been to a football match, chances are you've heard everything under the sun anyway.

Ghost Bones is just complaining about yet another thing regarding the show he supposedly loves so much. How surprising.
