Holy shit, that's a big deal! Space has had the whole weekend scheduled and devoted to movie marathons, which they've been promoting for weeks. And now they're interrupting that for the announcement of the new Doctor? Definitely out of left field.
I'm pretty certain the next doctor is going to be a woman. Looking at the guide on Directv, there's a show on tomorrow called Doctor Who: The Companions. The description says, "Reflecting on the the Doctor's companions as the newest begins her journey."

I'm betting it's going to be a relative unknown, as Smith was, or an older character-actor type. If Richard Briers was still with us, I would have loved that.
