New clips, and Sulu has a [spoiler]

The make up for the first movies was great, this is disappointing
Indeed. The ears he's wearing in this movie are not as good*, in my opinion. They're very much like Nimoy's ST5 ears, which just kind of lean back lazily compared to the usual ears which sit tall and point forwards a little bit at the top. These ears are exactly the sort that Nimoy warns them against using in the extra features on ST11.

And the wig is sitting very high on Quinto here for some reason. Wait, did he even wear a wig in the previous ones? Maybe that's it?

*Still better than the gigantic ones they put on Nimoy in STID. Thank goodness you don't get a profile look at them in the film, 'cause they be crazy yo.

I read that Quinto is not using a wig but that they did dye his hair all black and that makes it look fake. In the first movie they didn't do that as his natural hair color is already very dark
I too noticed that the ears look weird, in general he has a more cartonish look and less polished.

Ah, cool. That must be it. Thanks.

here's some pictures
this one is from a more recent event and his hair is back to his natural color (perhaps the lights in the picture/flash makes it look less dark than it actually is but his hair is definitely not black)

this picture instead is from right after filming trek (notice his brows are still a mess too lol)

his natural color is pretty dark enough he wouldn't really need to dye it for Spock, but in the second pic it looks like it was dyed a flat black

Reactions: JKM
Cool clips. I too have never heard Karl Urban's real voice. I had the same reaction today that I had when I heard Jordan Gavaris's real voice for the first time.

Makes me wonder if Prime Chekov did have a brother Piotr, but he died before Pavel was born. One little change makes waves.

Good grief, how did this turn from a conversation about Sulu potentially having a bigger part (or at least some character moments) in the next movie to a makeup discussion?

Sulu really didn't get much to do in Into Darkness aside from refusing to abandon ship, so it'd be nice to see him get a bit more attention in Beyond. Probably still won't be anything major, as it's only a movie, but if they can slip some moments in that expand his character it'd be great to see. Perhaps he and Bones can compare notes on wives and daughters.

yeah, I too don't think he probably has some major plot point but it IS cool to get to know more personal things about the other characters who aren't kirk or spock
