The more I see, the more I like. The slightly-revamped bridge looks awesome, they're revisiting some gravity tricks from Into Darkness and it turns out Sulu left Demora behind when he went on the 5-year mission.

Wonder if they'll name the girl Demora or something else.
The new uniforms look a bit better in this video, as they did in the trailer. However, still prefer the uniforms from the previous two movies.
But wasn't Demora born in 2271? I know that technically they changed all the characters birthdays (Chekov being a big example of it) so the dates from tos or the tos continuity are kind of invalid in the reboot, but can a person get conceived 10 years earlier than they were in another reality?
Probably it's one of those things we have to leave in the writing license and don't analyze too much, if it turns out to be the case.
I also wonder what John meant when he said there is a revelation about the kid that you have to watch the movie to find out.
Either he's talking about her being Demora (but then that wouldn't be much a revelation. Her NOT being Demora, like everyone seems to assume, would be more a surprise) or something about the mother (or father, if Sulu is gay or bi that would surely be a revelation)
Or maybe David Marcus here is Sulu's baby girl. I don't know.

The new uniforms still look to thick and stuffy for my taste. When a collar goes to far up the neck and is tight it gives a person a heavier look in the face. These new uniforms are almost turtle necks. Zachary Quinto for instance looks much heavier in this movie than the last one. Its probably a combination of some weight gain and the collar but he looks much different now and is resembling Nimoy less every movie. They should have stuck with the original uniforms or at least a variation with a lower collar.
You answered your own question. Chekov was conceived after Nero's time incursion, at a different date than he would have been in the Prime universe. Therefore, even though his parents still named him Chekov, he technically isn't the same individual as Prime Chekov. Which kind of explains why he ended up turning into a Wesley Crusher-like whiz kid which he certainly wasn't in the prime timeline.
As for Demora, Sulu could certainly have conceived her at a different time than in the Prime universe. After 2233, all bets are off.
The uniforms feel like how Bob Blackman (of TNG) would've designed the original uniforms. It doesn't feel like something you'd wear for daily work use.
He doesn't have to resemble Nimoy anymore. The conceit that he is an alternate Spock had already been established in the first movie. What happens to his appearance now doesn't matter.
Quinto looks chubbier, like Zachary Quinto with a wig and vulcan ears. The make up for the first movies was great, this is disappointing (he looks better in some bits from the trailer tho) And yes, it's the new uniform too that makes the guys look less slender.

If we were to follow Uhura's birthdate from memory beta, she'd be too young in the first movie.. but according to the official app for the reboot she was born in 2233 (which makes her only 3 years younger than Spock)
In general, it seems in the reboot a lot of things happen earlier compared to the prime reality, starting from when Kirk becomes the captain of the enterprise and thus when the iconic crew gets together.
I still wonder about John's comment that there is a revelation about the kid. Either he's referring to her being Demora (and thus that being a big nod to previous trek) or something about the other parent.
It kind of seems a bit too soon for me that Sulu has a kid that is at least 2 years old (from the picture at least) and he left her in earth so I hope there is more to that and it isn't just a nod for the sake of.

Looks like the ship's display panels behind Sulu all have a SSOD (Starfleet Screen of Death) on them.
