I don’t think it’s impossible we will get the announcement for the next set on 23rd November. Rumours are very much for Season 20.
Cover leaked last night. No logo change, so the people who get weird about that sort of thing won't need to complain. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Doctor-Who-The-Collection-Season-9-Blu-ray/331320/
Confirmed for 20th March. Hopefully this means they're moving to a quarterly schedule. https://www.doctorwho.tv/news-and-f...ext-instalment-in-the-collection-bluray-range
Ah! That explains all of the Baby Sea Devil memes I saw all over Twitter this morning. I was very puzzled where that image came from.
Season 20 finally announced (seriously, they recorded some of the extras pre-COVID) and it's the biggest collection yet, including a new 40th Anniversary edition of 'The Five Doctors'. https://www.doctorwho.tv/news-and-f...vison-next-instalment-collection-bluray-range It's amazing that in the days when even big-budget blockbusters barely have any extras, how much stuff they cram in. Apparently there's nearly 9,000 pages in the PDF documents section! And of course that also means another mini-episode trailer. At the rate they're expanding they'll eventually become full-length episodes.
I am absolutely *stoked* for this set. Several good stories in it. The roadtrip documentary looks like a hoot. I like that we're getting updated effects for Enlightenment again; hopefully it will be on the episodic version this time and not the 75-minute 16:9 cropped omnibus version we had last time. I'm less enthused about the effects for Snakedance if that snake in the trailer is representative, but it shows how much they care about improving the stories. The Five Doctors is going to be like 60% true HD since they have all the original film elements. The upscaled video portions should look nice too since they have the whole studio session, I believe. Should look fantastic. I have to laugh a bit because I remember when the 25th anniversary edition came out and the RT was like "we're never making another version of this story." How time flies! Dolby Atmos mix for The Five Doctors is neat too. They're really going all out for it. So much convention footage on these sets. Where do they find it all? I liked the trailer/episode quite a bit. Spoiler Did the trailer just confirm Nyssa/Tegan as an official thing? All in all, I can't wait for this set. I hope it's out sooner rather than later.
Film also exists for Mawdryn Undead, so I assume that has been sourced (I have a copy on vhs, but obviously bluray needs the actual film).
I don’t think this is right - the DVD didn’t include restored film. There were some film trims on the DVD but the actual film sequences in the episodes don’t exist (or aren’t available to the team) as far as I know. Clearly the brief clip of the Doctor meeting the Brig (10:17 in the trailer) is sourced from the master tape, not a fresh scan of the film itself. There are a few examples where bits and pieces exist on VHS but the original film is long gone, so it might be the case here.
it did def hint at canonising The Thing. The question now is whether the man the hat may also have been in The Thing. anyway. That aside, this is the first time I *almost* pre-ordered, but am gonna wait for the normal edition. Sixty quid is a lot of money.
Better kick off your shoes and settle back, its going to be a long wait. I'm still waiting for season 17 to come out as a normal edition.
In a good news / bad news situation Series 1-4 are getting new upscales to 1080p, which is welcome as the technology has vastly improved since they were originally done. Unfortunately, they're only available on a limited edition America only box set of 1-13. It also contains brand new extras (and some knock-off Funko Pops). Hopefully physical media lasts long enough for The Collection to complete the Original Series and then head on to the New Series. https://shop.bbc.com/collections/do...on-complete-new-who-colllectors-blu-ray-24109
Yeah, can't say I'll be rushing to import that. I'd be interested in 1-4 in good quality, but all the Blu-rays have been compromised in some way so far.
Yeah, I've been thinking for a while I need to make an honest man of myself and get the revival on Blu-Ray, but there's no easy way to do that. It feels like there should be some amount of money I can throw at the problem to get a) all the episodes and specials since 2005, b) all the special features, especially webisodes and bonus scenes, c) in full HD, and d) in the original frame rate. It doesn't even have to be a fancy remaster, just press some more copies of the discs that already exist and put them all together in one big box (or four or five reasonably distinct smaller boxes, whatever). This seems to be the closest, but I'd prefer to spend $175 to watch Doctor Who not slightly slowed down. And it doesn't mention anything about the vintage VAM from prior releases, just that there's some new stuff.
Walmart had 'The Complete (LOL) David Tennant' on Blu-Ray a couple years back, and I got that. Yet Smith and Capaldi sets were DVD-only, and forgetting finding Eccleston anywhere but eBay.
