New 2017 titles and blurbs - DTI, McCormack DS9, and more!

That could be good aswell, although no Excelsior-A please. Either Excelsior with a new registry, or a story set on the old Excelsior

Why no Excelsior A?
If its the same ship it doesn't matter or not?
I want to know were Sulu was around the 2360's

I want to know Sulu's fate. We know of Kirk, Spock, and Scotty's (apparent) deaths. And McCoy, Uhura and Chekov are still alive (and a bit too active in my opinion). But Sulu is a big mystery after his last DRG3 appearance (supposed meetings with Chakotay not withstanding.)

Well, there was a mention of an Excelsior on TNG which had a completely different registry, which kind of rules out there being an Excelsior A.

Mostly because I always felt giving a new ship and adding a letter behind the registry is kinda weird. They even retconned it for the Yamamoto didn't they? It just seems kinds weird to me, that's all. Bit fanwanky, if suddenly all ships get the 'letter after registry' thing. Safe it for just the Enterprise.

If you mean the Yamato, it was retconned away from that -- it was initially alleged to be "NCC-1305-E" (a script error that wasn't caught in time), but then was retconned to NCC-71807.

It's especially weird because they've already had tons of ships with repeated names without the letter thing. Including the Excelsior itself, as @The Wormhole pointed out. I mean, DS9's Defiant wasn't the NCC-1764-A or something.

The Enterprise at least you could chalk up to reusing the same name within the same class, to allow people to easily distinguish between the two, and it continuing from there as a tradition/honoring/whatever, but that was a special and weird circumstance that kicked it off. They've never once given the impression that it was something done every time they reused a name; every piece of evidence implies that it's extremely rare that they do that, in fact.

That's what I ment, retconned to no longer have a registry that had a letter at the end. I see how I was unclear. Thanks for clearing that up. :)

But even then, there's exactly zero sense to reusing the registry number. Registry numbers aren't like names and don't serve the same purpose. They're meant to be unique identifiers for each ship and to convey meaningful information about their class, characteristics, placement in the sequence, etc. Reusing a registry number from a much earlier ship and slapping a letter on it is useless. It obscures all the information that the numbers are meant to convey. It's treating it as an extension of the name, and that makes no sense. Part of the reason for the numbers is to differentiate ships that have the same name, or to clarify the identity of a ship that's been renamed. If the Enterprise-A had been a different ship that was renamed Enterprise, it absolutely should not have had its number changed along with it.

There was an Enterprise-C Lost Era novel (Well of Souls) but it was, IMHO, rather impenetrable. Not anywhere near as exciting as the Ent-C sequences in Vulcan's Heart.

It took me two attempts to finish that one. After the second, I felt I missed just about everything in the novel. I should give it another shot.

Does anyone else find it a bit weird that nothing has been announced for the last few months of the year? I mean, we usually know what's coming a year in advance.

I've been expecting some kind of TNG 30th anniversary miniseries to fill those slots, but now I'm starting to worry...

I'm not really worried but I am curious. I wish Pocket had a better system set upfor announcements and interacting with our community. There's basically nothing.

Yeah, I miss the days when we had editors who posted here.

I didn't think they usually announced stuff that far in advance.

It was nice to have the Editors announce the upcoming book schedule and also gave us hints about some of the books books for Tos, Tng and Enterprise and Ds9 the Voyager novels.. Visionary trek has Interviewed Margaret Clark about Trek books in the past. They usually discuss the upcoming novels at great length. So far this year they haven't done an interview with her yet in 2017. I'm curious about the other Star trek books coming out after August.

I wonder if there's something related to Discovery that they're keeping in the wings - other than the David Mack novel - to announce after the show has debuted?

No new Trek MMP novel scheduled yet for this May (end of April) either (right?); that's even more puzzling it seems.
