New, 14-disc Ron Jones TNG soundtrack box set!

LA area residents, this is definitely something to mark on your calendars!

Hm...the problem I'm looking at is that I haven't heard most of the music in so long that I'm not sure whether it's stuff I'd like to have, or whether I'd end up with most of it in my "never listen to this" section.

I also -don't- have the BoBW CD, so the exclusion of it is...unhelpful for me.

I look forward to a review!

Well, you can procure the score to "Best of Both Worlds" for less than five dollars used, so it's just as well that an extra CD wasn't added to this set, increasing the cost even further.

!

There are audio samples available for every episode on the FSM website. This was an instant purchase for me. I adore Jones' scores and felt that he elevated the quality of the episode with his music. The High Ground and Devil's Due are favorite episodes of mine, just because of the music. To think that in a couple of weeks I can finally listen to the complete score of Q Who?.... Bliss!

One of the ones I'm most looking forward to is "The Naked Now." That early in the series, they were deliberately trying to emulate the TOS musical sound (even bringing back Fred Steiner to score "Code of Honor"), and Jones does an excellent pastiche of the TOS style in "The Naked Now." Though there are plenty of others I'm looking forward to as well. "Heart of Glory," "Skin of Evil" (which I just know is going to make me cry), "Loud as a Whisper," "The Royale," "Evolution," "Booby Trap," and more.

The "Additional and Alternate Cues" should be interesting too.

Hmmm...well, I have to say the posts I'm seeing here are inclining me more towards purchasing it. The price is a little scary, though I realize that on a per-disc basis it's not bad.

^Yep. 150 bucks for 14 discs is about $10.71 per disc. Typical CD prices these days are 17-20 bucks, apparently. So on a per-disc basis, it's a bargain.

I can understand how this can seem a big chunk of change, especially if you're not in the habit of buying big CD box sets. However, there will be lots of great music to dive into and absorb over a long period of time - it will take a while to get through all 14 discs! I myself am wondering how I will tackle this set initially... head straight for the favorites I know or just start with disc one and work my way through over days & weeks?

(laughs) It would also help if I hadn't just invested in a big Blu Ray box set.

Damn you Lost!!! (shakes fist)

$17-$20 typical CD??
I'm an old dinosaur who still buys hardcopy CDs of my music.
For one new CD, generally I pay about $10-$12. Rarely more than $15. And that's not bargain-hunting or anything special. Just common prices I find.

Anyway, the subject is Ron Jones TNG and thumbs-up, count me in!!!!

In my experience, soundtrack CDs tend to run $16-18 these days, and when I checked Amazon this morning, the various Trek score CDs listed there tended to be between $17-20. Maybe other types of music are less expensive?

The prices also depend on how new the release is. You can definitely find very very cheap CDs out there that are cheap simply because they aren't in demand.

I've been listening to the samples on a constant loop since they were released. I cannot wait to get this - I never thought we'd get such a complete collection!

In fact, I wish I could go back in time and tell my past self that one day, all those musical scores that I loved as a kid were eventually going to be released in their entirety. Past me would freak out! :)
