Never watched star trek till two weeks ago..

thanks fot the episodes to look for! Why would I like season 4? More about the blood oath? Jemhadar is the end of season 2 isn't it? I will trust you and look forward to seeing that one. I just saw the one with parrel universe and the evil Kera.
NOT AS GOOD AS as blood oath but a fun episode.

Just so you know the Mirror Universe first appeared in Trek in The Original Series. It's the same alternate universe. There are 5 MU eps in DS9, 1 in TOS and 2 in ENT.

(IMO the TOS one is the best)

Thanks! I like insider stuff like that!!

If you're a fan of the Klingon warrior culture, season four makes use of that quite heavily. :)

And, yes, The Jem'Hadar is the season two finale, and an important story in setting up the overarching plot for the rest of the series.

Love to hear that!!!!!!!!!

What is the name of the race? Will I see them in season 3?

There's too much confusion.
You think that's confusing? Imagine making love to someone knowing that they're really thinking about Han Solo, while also craning your neck in order to see the Luke/Vader lightsabre fight. It's simultaneously awesome, disheartening, uncomfortable and awesome again.

There's a lot more about the Klingons from season 4 on, including the introduction of some recurring Klingon characters. You may just see Kor again.

And if you like warrior races, a new warrior race will be introduced soon that have a different take on the concept from the Klingons. So there's that to look forward to too.

Now there's one sick individual.
Look into those depraved eyes. You can tell that he had a tingling sensation down there while he watched Leia kiss Luke, because only he knew the truth. Sick bastard.

I just watched the last episode and the first four of season 3. The house of quark was awesome!!! i AM BECOMING A huge KLINGON FAN. The episode with dax forgettin one of the people she was was very good as well. This show is becoming very addiciting. What does uss stand for? Cool ship in season 3.

I'm actually not sure, but I've seen people say 'United Starship'. That doesn't sound right to me but I won't discount it.

Yeah, a lot of Klingon fans really know they're Klingon faces from early on into their Trek-viewing. You'd probably enjoy some of the classic Klingon stuff, too, like TOS, the TOS movies and the beginning of the modern Klingon you've already come to know with TNG.

If you're that into them, you'll like the show even more from season four onward. Bigger presence.

It might interest you to know OP that the 3 elderly Klingons in Blood Oath all appeared as young Klingons in the Original series, the same actors playing the same characters 30+ years later. Trek has a fabulous decades spanning continuity.

wow! That's cool to know that! I will have to watch the old show at some point. The story in quarks house had a great Klingon story as well. I just watched the episode where Kira was made into a cardassian. It was a good episode but it didn't make me doubt for a second she was who she said she was and was a cardasian.

How many movies are there? Can anyone give me a quick rundown of them?

There have been 11 movies with a 12th coming out next year.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture
A big blue blob is on a direct course for Earth, and the Enterprise is somehow the only ship in range. It's like 2001 A Space Odyssey if nobody working on 2001 had any idea what they were doing.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
Kirk, Spock and Rebecca from Cheers must face down Ricardo Montalban's awesome chest in a battle of wits, revenge and super-weapons. Awesome!

Star Trek III: The Search for Spock
Kirk and co go looking for Spock. Why? Where? How? I can't tell you any of these things, but I can tell you that this movie has Doc Brown as the defining Klingon.

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
The crew go back in time to the 1980s in order to capture two humpback whales, which are needed in the future to save Earth from an inanimate carbon rod. This movie is much better than it sounds.

Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
Kirk and co must face down Klingons and terrorists and undergo a perilous journey to the centre of the galaxy in order to find the meaning of existence. This movie is much worse than it sounds.

Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
On the eve of galactic peace, Kirk is arrested for regicide and fulfils his lifelong ambition of kissing his duplicate. Awesome!

Star Trek: Generations
The first film to focus on The Next Generation cast sees Picard and Kirk finally meeting and proves once and for all that Picard is the better captain of the two. Also, there's something about a magic ribbon and stars exploding, but that's just filler.

Star Trek: First Contact
The Borg return, randomly travel back in time and try to stop humans from making first contact with aliens. Picard goes insane, kills his crew and tries to blow up his ship. Awesome!

Star Trek: Insurrection
Picard and co find the fountain of youth, condemn billions to die horrible deaths because a couple of hundred people are greedy and want to live forever.

Star Trek Nemesis
Picard gets an evil clone, Data gets an evil clone, the Romulan government is wiped out and Diana crashes the ship again.

Star Trek

In an alternate timeline, James T Skywalker meets Obi Wan Pike, discovers he has a destiny and sets out to destroy a giant ship that's destroying planets.

I just watched the episode where Kira was made into a cardassian. It was a good episode but it didn't make me doubt for a second she was who she said she was and was a cardasian.

The first time I saw it I hoped she was really a Cardassian. there are Trek novels about the real Iliana Ghemor btw.

How many movies are there? Can anyone give me a quick rundown of them?

Well firstly there are no DS9 movies :scream:

I'm sure you will get a bunch of movie lists, some will proclaim certain movies are not really Trek or are absolutely goddawful (think prequels fighting). Here's MY list, I'm sure many would disagree.

11 movies. I'm avoiding spoilers in the rundown.

1. The Motion Picture, TOS crew 1979. Otherwise known as the Motionless Picture. Saw it when it came out.. took me 30 years to watch it again. I just knew my initial reaction was misplaced and that decades of Trek viewing would mean I would love this film the second time. I was wrong.

Plot: Something threatens the universe.

2. The Wrath of Khan, TOS crew, 1982. Very exciting movie about Kirk and Khan, a character from the TOS episode Space Seed. Highly recommend watching Space Seed first. Usually comes out fan favorite in polls.

Plot: One man's megalomania is another man's greatness.

3. The Search for Spock, TOS crew, 1984. Direct sequel to TWOK. Pretty bad film IMHO, but perfectly good Trek as far as advancing story lines. What happens in TWOK and Search for Spock stays with Trek for many decades to come. Not saying any spoilers here.

Plot: Friendship and loyalty is a life force in itself.

4. The Voyage Home, TOS crew, 1986. Fun time travel adventure. Cheesy in places but also a good dose of sci-fi and the if you love the TOS crew the characters are really having a great time in this one.

Plot: Spock on a bus in San Francisco in the 80's.

5. The Final Frontier, TOS crew, 1989. Now I love this one, I think it's a camp romp with some great lines. However many others hate it. It's a big cheesy sci-fi story with some excellent character development.

Plot: Two brothers and a fan dancer. Also, horses.

6. The Undiscovered Country, TOS crew, 1991. Was my favorite for a long time. Drama, politics, LOTS of Klingons and Klingon politics, sabotage and subterfuge. A classic TOS tale.

Plot: Klingons quoting Shakespeare, surely the very meaning of the word "machinations".

7. Generations, TOS and TNG crew, 1994. The handover film, from the TOS era to the TNG era. Again many don't like it but I always enjoy this one. It's a good yarn, shows you what has only been hinted at in TNG as to one particular character and race. Good villain. Kirk and Picard together.. well this gets me every time.

Plot: Always two there are.. well until the end of this one. Also, Christmas.

8. First Contact, TNG crew, 1996. This was my favorite movie for years. Very tight story line, a great movie even if you aren't a Trek viewer. Picard, the Borg, time travel, origin story, the Borg.. :techman:

Plot: Colorful lead up to mankind's first contact with alien races.

9. Insurrection, TNG crew 1998. Always felt like a double ep of TNG rather than a movie to me. Classic TNG ep, Our Crew lands on a planet and gradually realizes things are not as they seem (!!) Pleasant viewing.

Plot: Picard finally meets a very nice woman.

10 Nemesis, TNG crew, 2002. Lumpy, disappointing, weirdly fail at emotional impact story that has some good scenes here and there. Romulans, but really turns into a Picard and Data story. Looks good, acted well, plot itself is the problem. I always think a few plot changes and it would have been pretty good.

Plot: Attack of the Clones

11. Star Trek, Rebooted TOS crew, 2008. The last big one, the new Trek movie, JJ's gift to an aging franchise or a slimeball piece of heresy depending on your view. It is now my favorite ever Trek film and I think it would make a good intro to TOS. I know MANY people now watching Trek for the first time because of this movie, watching Trek and loving it. Some detractors compare it to Star Wars, so maybe you would particularly like it :)

Plot: Star Trek really is as cool as devoted fans always thought it was.

You don't have to be a detractor in order to compare it to Star Wars, you just have to be honest. ;) Star Trek 09 was Warsified, and I don't mean that in a bad way, it's just the truth. JJ Abrams admitted he wasn't a fan of Star Trek, he was a huge fan of Star Wars and he set out to make a movie that wasn't "your father's Star Trek", so he introduced some Star Wars-y elements to it.

It's like saying that The Wrath of Khan was Horatio Hornblower in space, which it kind of was because Nicholas Meyer was a fan of Hornblower and envisaged the movie that way. Saying that isn't an insult towards TWOK, it's a great movie, but it's not in the same tone as the original series. If some people don't like TWOK because of that, that's okay, it just happened that most people preferred the new tone.

Most people also happened to prefer the new tone presented in Trek 09 and there's no reason to be ashamed of that. But that doesn't mean it wasn't more like Star Wars.

This is awesome! What a great list. The comments are very helpful!! THe last one sounds like a trek movie I would have made lol.

Another great list! Can't thank you all enough for all the input! It really helps this new trek fan alot!! Lots of good reading in this post as well.

Oh man, now I want to get in on the Trek Movie List act. However, I'm going to sum them up with a line from each movie. Here goes...

Motion Picture:
"..................."
(just lots of staring at viewscreens)

Wrath Of Khan
"KHAAAAANNN!!!"

Search For Spock
"I. Have Had. Enough Of. YOU!"
(is that technically four lines?)

Voyage Home
"Wouldn't this be time for a colorful metaphor?"

Final Frontier
"Hold your horse, Captain, I'm scanning."

Undiscovered Country
"Let them die!"

Generations
"Oh my..."

First Contact
"NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!"

Insurrection
"Have you noticed your boobs firming?"

Nemesis
"Why does the tall man have a furry face?"

09
"FIRE EVERYTHING!!!!"

"Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan", "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home", and "Star Trek: First Contact" are the three best Star Trek movies. Star Trek II is the most thoughtful and emotionally powerful. Star Trek IV is the most funny and entertaining one (and the easiest one to watch if you don't know too much about Star Trek) and I think "Star Trek: First Contact" is the best one because it's the only one with great action, great special effects, touching moments, and some interesting ideas about human nature, like all of the best Star Trek.

Star Trek II is the most moving one, but its special effects kind of suck. "Star Trek" from 2009 is fun, but doesn't have a lot of substance, and personally I found the special effects to be an incoherent pain in the ass. I also thought its villain was pretty lame (good performance, though). Star Trek III and VI are okay but some of their characters, scenes and story lines suck. They're interesting if you're a Star Trek fan, but I'd say if you skip them you're not missing much.

"Star Trek: Generations", "Star Trek: Insurrection", and "Star Trek: Nemesis" are all very poor movies with weak story lines and weak acting/characterizations. "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" has some neat special effects sequences, but much of it is very boring, and it makes the characters shockingly dull compared to how fascinating they were in the TV series this movie was supposedly based on. A very disappointing movie that seems to be ridiculously overpraised by some fans based mostly on nostalgia.

I haven't seen all of "Star Trek V", but from what I've seen it stinks and although it has a minority of fans who like it, the general objective consensus is that it's the worst Star Trek movie. People may hate "Nemesis" more because it gave the TNG crew such a shitty send-off, but at least it was well-made and has a story that's coherent (albeit uninspired and stupid). "Star Trek V", on the other hand, is just sloppy. Overall I'd recommend Star Trek II, IV, VIII, and XI because they're the most consistent of the series. The rest are either mediocre or downright horrible.

This is WONDERFUL!! Like running through them at warp speed, lolol..

I actually teared up at the Generations one. And a moment later cracked up at the Insurrection one. Thank you for a great list!

Hi all i am a huge star wars fan who thought I coudnt watch trek becasue you cant like both.

Which is an attitude I don't understand. Why, exactly can't you like both? This a free country after all.

Anyway, welcome young padawan, and have fun. DS9 is one of the high points of the whole Star Trek franchise. Might I suggest following it up with TNG and then TOS? Those are the other good ones.
