Boy, that looks bad. Not the photoshop but the mustache. Maybe more of a Walt Disney type mustache might work, something thinner and not so broad with a little grey in it.

The mustache was from an existing Scotty image pretty much as-is, just had some gray streaks in it. I toned down the gray (which now looks like slight reflections on the hairs), because there's no gray on his head.

At first I didn't like it, but after a while I'm finding it OK. Maybe it's just not being used to seeing a mustache on him during TOS. Part of it is also his hair style. The B&W one that NCC-1701 did looks the best, IMHO.

I never liked the screens and consoles on Space: 1999. The main viewer looks like some kind of child's board game. And those silly checkerboard patterns. What were they thinking? So, mixing the characters... ugg, just doesn't feel right.

I was catching up on my reading today and came across this innocent posting, which brought me back (again) to one of my favorite themes...Captain Spock.

A few years ago I put together these images of Spock in command...

... and determined that Spock would most likely have an unfortunate tendency to micromanage. Strangely enough, when revisiting the idea it is hard not to reach the same conclusion.

It's strange to see Spock out of his blue uniform. Spock would really need McCoy at his side as Captain, as we already saw in "Galileo Seven". Given enough time, Spock would probably have made a fine captain, but he would've definitely needed to learn how to deal with the crew's (and his own) emotions.

Well, I didn't notice DeSalle until you mentioned it, and obviously Scotty is Spock's XO.

Yeah, Scotty is XO, DeSalle has switched to a red uniform... and Kirk is floating in a shiny spacesuit between dimensions.

Excellent work, Shaw! I also like that one of Captain Spock leaning over the control panel. This was from Squire of Gothos, right? Do you still have the original screen capture? It would be interesting to see the before/after.


Thanks for the nods, NCC-1701 & Praetor. I got lucky on the image, which made it easy--perfect lighting and facial expression. I just scaled, rotated slightly, trimmed, a little blur, and that was pretty much it. Ironically, the face of Chekov came from the original photo used for this one... I'd completely forgotten about the face that Davy Jones replaced. So, I'm searching around for a while, finally come across it in Spectre of the Gun, and felt like kicking myself--it was right in front of me all the time.
