Netflix greenlights new "Lost in Space"

There's a lot of really nice imagery layered into the show. The scene between the not-yet-Dr. Smith and her sister is just beautifully done. Her sister is framed by a huge window that looks like a warm, beautiful seascape painting, sunlight streaming in behind her perfectly combed hair. Smith, on the other hand, sits opposite her in shadow, her hair a mess, in front of what looks like cold stone. They're both sitting on couches, but Smith just feels ... lower, partly because of Posey's posture but also because of how they deliberately position the artwork awkwardly behind her. The whole room is off balance -- on the sister's side there is a huge pendulum clock, while on Smith's there is a much smaller one. Then, of course, the sister sips her champagne and Smith crosses over, bringing the shadow with her. Really well done. Makes me want to rewatch the whole show just to focus on the symbolism and visuals.

Also, Parker Posey is tremendous in that scene.

I'm not sure they put that much effort into most shows. Which is why I'll definitely pick up Lost in Space on Blu-ray or 4K if it becomes available. So much of it is handled with such care. Just a visually stunning show.

This show embraces the essential nostalgia which is a necessary element of the appeal of both stories about interstellar travel now and of reviving a series with its roots so firmly planted in the Space Age of the 1960s - but it does so in earnest and unexpected ways.

I teared up when I realized that they were about to launch two guys with only spacesuits for life support into orbit guided by ground control. :)

I was skeptical of this reboot, but they've put far more care into it than I ever thought we'd see expended on a property like Lost in Space. And I'd love a high-def version. I've wondered if the two pendulum clocks might be running at different times, but I haven't been able to tell. I could totally see even details like that being important.

That was tremendous. And I enjoyed that they literally stripped away all the sci-fi trappings to put the show's humanity at the forefront. That's a proper mission statement.

Saw him years ago in a miniseries called 'Perfect Strangers' (US title: 'Almost Strangers'). He was good then. And you do know he was in 'Black Sails'?

I don't have any premium cable subscriptions, unfortunately. Even when I had HBO, I didn't really get into of the shows like Game of Thrones, True Blood, et al.

Why is that happening?
