Nemesis has some great Patrick Stewart moments

Yes, I see how my post could come across as strongly against Dukhat. I apologize for that, to Dukhat especially.

No problem Mage. To clarify, my issue wasn't that Picard couldn't suddenly have an interest in something new and off the wall as he got older. The issue I had was the specific thing he was interested in, based only on the fact that it was something Patrick Stewart himself likes, and that the character he plays would not, IMHO, and the fact that on numerous occasions it has been stated in Star Trek that wheeled ground vehicles are a thing of the past and no one would even know how to drive one if given the opportunity.

Granted. I remember seeing Stewart in Top Gear and how he commented on how much fun it was since he does love driving fast.

I am sorry, I didn't think you meant Dukat as a poster but rather the real Dukat so to speak, so I took it as kind of a joke.

The be completely fair to Nemesis (;)), Jean-Luc was established as a fan of pulp detective fiction, and regularly LARPed as Dixon Hill on the holodeck, so chances are likely pretty good that if anybody was going to understand the operation of an obscure four-wheeled vehicle, then it'd be him. BUT however I do take the point that it's strange that the Enterprise would be equipped with such a vehicle in the first place...

I think the idea that wheeled vehicles have gone extinct is pretty weird in itself. I mean, if a shuttlepod breaks down it's stuck until it's repaired, but with a car at least you can push it.

It does make you wonder, doesn't it eyeresist?

I mean, we hold 'the invention of the wheel' as being one of mankind's most important achievements. And yet, in Star Trek's supposedly enlightened future, we're supposed to believe that the invention of hover systems has made the wheel completely redundant.

You're right, on some level that stretches credibility. :)

Heh.....they have wheeled vehicles in Star Wars...and the only thing we knowabout that universe is that it takes place A Long Time Ago, In A Galaxy Far, Far Away. And their tech is millennia old when we see wheeled/tracked vehicles in Episodes III-IV.

So how do people get around future San Francisco? Public transport or walk? In the world of Star Trek, it seems that wherever they go everything is within walking distance.

Yes, it would seem that within the years between now and then, they invented adequate city planning. :guffaw:

I'm afraid to say that I think the scene is quite silly.
On a tangential note: I was shooting a video with Ivan "ironman " Stewart a few months back. He was the one who supplied the race truck the Argo was based on and taught Patrick Stewart how to drive it. It was a "protuck", a v8 powered monster that they race in the Baja 1000. He said Patrick was a good driver. He also said that they wouldn't let him keep the Argo bodywork and that paramount returned the truck to him after they converted it back to stock.

I have no problem with the Argo or B4. Getting into a shooting match with the locals was a bit silly and possibly breaks prime directive or first contact rules. Some sort of implication they were a third party of pirates or something after the head would have been nice.

In terms of patrick stewart intruding on the character, check out 'the writing of strvtrek insurrection' by michael piller. Sure its out there in the wild somewhere.

I can live with the idea of Picard being a vehicle enthusiast (he was said to be an equestrian during TNG and it was implied he likes it because of the speed and the adrenaline rush, I suppose his love for vehicles would stem from something similar) Plus he was probably in his midlife crisis as well as any possibly lingering effects from the "Youth Spell" from INS.

What I do have problems it that he gleefully rode a dune buggy while Worf was gunning down what very well might have been that planet/region's armed forces trying to protect their planet/country from an invasion.....the hell?
Picard - vehicle enthusiast: Okay.
Picard - causal murderer/war criminal: NAY!
