Ncuti Gatwa is the 15th Doctor

Yeah, I can see both happening. They announce the companion, and release a promo photo of them with Gatwa, who is in his costume.

RTD was pretty good at controlling the narrative prior before the rags get too out of hand. He tends to obfuscate and misdirect a lot ("He's the NEXT DOCTOR!!"), but he's good in front of a camera when he tells the tale. Accordingly, RTD only declared officially that David is returning as Doctor #14 only hours after the airing of "The Power of the Doctor" (and not some sort of one-off or "Bridge Doctor" as fandom has suggested), so there may still be something to figure out here.

I agree that we'll see an official picture of Ncuti and companion just before any location shooting will take place, but whatever "official" words that come with it should be taken with a grain of salt.

I'm sure these will probably refurbished Daleks with any changes just being minor cosmetic ones, probably involving surface detail and the like. The basic Dalek design has lasted close to sixty years, so it definitely does not need a drastic update. And considering the New Paradigm was not well received at all, I can't see anything even on that scale being attempted again.
`I'm hoping a return to silver.

It may not be a whole new race of Daleks either. Just a new variant like the Dalek Emperor, Supreme Dalek, etc. I didn't mind the Recon Daleks of the past few stories, at least in design. Execution, of course...

In any case they probably won't play too much with the basic design IMO. They were tinkered with aplenty in the first few years of Classic Who, and then painted a bunch of different ways through the 1980s, culminating with the minor variations of the Imperial Daleks. I can see something like that happening.

I agree that the bronze Daleks probably won't be gone for good. It's a perfect update of a perfect design which has lasted a long time.

I actually really liked the New Paradigm Daleks and it's a shame they got completely binned. I would have liked to have seen them continue alongside the bronze Daleks, so perhaps will have another go at doing them properly.

The Recon Daleks were nice because for the first time you couldn't fit a person in there. I don't think we'll get quite that big a departure with any redesign, but time will tell.

As usual they won't tell us what time and I'll be watching the footie so will have to be 'surprised' by Twitter (if it still exists later).

There are two Roses in the frame of course.

Yasmin Finney's Rose might carry on from the Specials (though I'm not sure if she's even in all the specials, it might just be one) or the rumours about Rose Ayling-Ellis might be true (fingers crossed) and we might have our first disabled companion (I'm not counting Ryan's episode dependant dyspraxia)

Or it could be someone else completely. Companion singular does suggest we won't be back to a crowded Tardis.

I wonder if they'll couple this announcement with his outfit or whether they'll save that for a separate bit of buzz?

Hmm. So Russell posted a Red Diamond on Instagram. What's another word for red and is there an up and coming actress who is currently looking for a new job. I tell you, this is going to look impressive if I'm right...

Of course if we're talking Bridgerton there have been two diamonds and neither of them was her?
We could all go a bit 321 here

Speaking of "Bridgerton", is that how they're going to deal with stories set in the past by pretending that racism didn't exist? You can't really have the Doctor spending half the episode getting people to treat him like a human being (so to speak) before letting him deal with the threat of the week.

I was hoping that
Yasmin Finney's Rose Temple-Noble
was going to be paired with Ncuti, but the fact that the BBC and Bad Wolf are using Children in Need to make a big formal announcement about the identity of the Fifteenth Doctor's Companion seems to indicate that what I was hoping for will sadly not be the case.

We'll see what ends up happening, though.

I think it's very unlikely RTD will ignore racism, but stories set in Earth in the past are maybe one or two episodes per series so I doubt it's going to be a major problem.

We had this same debate fifteen years ago when Freema Agyeman was cast, and we got some evidence of how the show would deal with it: by ignoring (“The Shakespeare Code,” where the Doctor tells Martha to just act like she owns the place) or incorporating (“Human Nature,” where one of the students makes a racist joke at Martha’s expense while she’s posing as a servant) it depending on the tone of the story.
