(I HATE starship "evolution".)
Not sure I hate the idea, but it has the byproduct of making the Federation feel really small.

Until it can be accepted as valid in its own right as performances should be.
And that's...bad?have its fans go through hoops to come up with retcons as
Good to know Kurtzman is all about insulting us viewers.Ron Moore really wasn't about insulting the intelligence of his audience, or feeling the need to use old BSG as a crutch because he didn't trust that his own show would be able to stand on its own.
And that's...bad?

If the Enterprise is a character, then she's been recast.
Oh please. She's had work done.Except the original actor is Alive and well and looks exactly the same age.![]()
This response makes it sound like you think I'm head-over-heels about the DSC/SNW Enterprise. To be totally 100% clear, I'm not. "Gets the job done" means I think it did what it intended to do. I don't agree with what it intended to do because, like I said, it's trying to please too many masters. But if their goal was, "Make a ship that looks like it came between the NX-01 and the TMP Refit!" they did it. I didn't say I thought the DSC/SNW Enterprise was some awesome design and that I'd cover up all my walls with posters of it.That's the responsibility of the NX-01 and by the opinion of a great many posters here, it didn't do it's job.
You can't come along 30+ years later and make the first Enterprise look like a Star Destroyer (as an example) and then say "You know, the next ship in line just really didn't follow the lineage. It's just kind of an odd duck."
Really they should have looked at a Civil War era ship and the U.S.S. Nimitz and said "They should have as much in common as that." (I HATE starship "evolution".)
Not really, no.Glad you see things my way.

I can't be insulted by this work.
Since it appears this thread and this other one over in Trek Tech are being held somewhat in parallel, would it make sense for one to be merged into the other?
At least, it feels as if the reply I would post to this thread would more or less be the same as what I posted recently over in that one...
So family heirlooms are now characters

There is another example of a ship being a character.
Alice, from "ALICE".
Being sentimental doesn't make an inanimate object a character.
