Same.I think she's gorgeous.
They are both beautiful but one does not feel as realistic any more.
Same.I think she's gorgeous.
Ah but they did, there have been at least 9 different versions of the Tardis, each with different proportions, roof shape, and paint colors. The current Tardis is as different from the 1963 version (or even a real police box) as the SNW Enterprise is from the original. But to the average viewer "It's the same picture".
The differences in the Tardis exterior over time have been so incredibly minimal that no one would ever say, ‘That’s not what the Tardis is supposed to look like!’ That’s obviously not true for the Discoprise, despite what you quoted above. A more apt comparison to the Tardis would be the Cage version of the Enterprise as opposed to the regular series TOS Enterprise.
But I will agree that the average viewer doesn’t give a crap what the ship looks like.
still sure about "minimal"?

Yeah, pretty much.
it’s a different color, a different size, and none of the elements or detailing is interchangeable. All things you can say when comparing the TOS Enterprise with SNW, but not the Pilot and series versions.
Obvious visual differences, in shape, form, and color, an increase in size. I'm sensing a pattern!still sure about "minimal"?

Damn persnickity chameleon circuit
It is. And really I felt that start with TMP. The TMP refit felt like a much different ship and was treated as a much different ship and did not have the same general feel to it as the TOS Enterprise. It made TOS stand out quite oddly. The uniform change was another, with the more muted tones harkening back to the Cage than anything in TOS.
With the movement towards the Excelsior, then the Galaxy Class, and then the NX-01 the lineage feels very different.
TOS may be the icon for pop culture but that doesn't mean it fits with everything that came after it.
Not really, no.It fits with everything that came after just fine.
You still need to produce a show for a 21st century audience. There are expectations for things set in the future to look futuristic. Which I think SNW has done a wonderful job at conveying. The ship, both inside and out, shows it's 1960's influence, without being overly retro. It looks futuristic and fantastical.
As for the TARDIS, i'd say it is a bad example because a police box is a real object. People expect a real object to look....real.
Not really, no.
It always stood out. It might have been the hook for me in to DS9 but it didn't fit right. It felt quite different.
It's not a period piece. It's a future projection of current humanity. The mustang is a very poor comparison. How so? It was a ship of the past so of course it would have looked a bit dated compared to DS9. If a modern 2023 Ford mustang traveled back in time to 1965 and met its 1965 counterpart they would look weird together as well. But I don't think the audience would say ....oh my god that old mustang needs to be updated to fit in with modern mustang....![]()

It's not that it looks dated. It feels completely out of step with TNG and DS9. It feels...like a stage.
To you. Not to me. It stands out as a model to me.ut it's not a poor comparison. TOS is the past of DS9. Again I just showed a video of the TOS Enteprise in Discovery and it fits perfectly fine. In fact it looks way more modern than the discovery itself ..(which is a design almost as old as the TOS constitution class late 70's in fact)
Not really, no. The TOS Constitution looks, well, of its time. Not modern.A fictional ship design by a couple of FX guys in the 1960's looks way more modern for 21st century audiences then the blue origin rocket ...

It looks good, it is iconic, it stands out as a part of history. But, not modern.
It fits with everything that came after just fine. It's before where the problem lies.....
This clip proves it fits in just fine with most of it's original look.
It didn't need to be scaled up twice as big
Again I just showed a video of the TOS Enteprise in Discovery and it fits perfectly fine.
Overall they could have found a happier medium.
