NCC -1701 (TOS).....

Dar70

Vice Admiral
Admiral
......Still my favorite starship design. I like it more then the movie Versions which is my second favorite, followed by D....

It's timeless and elegant and why some productions fail to acknowledge it's look is beyond me.....

Would love to see the old Studio Model filmed in HD and inserted into some original episodes. The CGI renders were not all that great. Maybe add some additional lighting on the ship (via CGI) but leave the rest as is...

Technically, it has been acknowledged in DS9's "Trials and Tribble-ations" and VOY's 2-part "In a Mirror, Darkly", with the 1701 and Defiant, given much on-screen time in a way that was showing off the classic design.

That would be an interesting experiment.

The CGI renders were not all that

TOS-R's 1701 was terrible and video-gamey, even during the year of its premiere.

Haha. Yeah if someone brings up that old chestnut..

Fits in great. Just update the lighting a bit....
It really doesn't. But I suppose that's a matter of opinion.

*note: I adore the old girl. I've got models, toys, paintings, framed artwork that shows as much. I'm just perfectly ok with the look being updated.

I would be the first person to say that they could have come up with a better design than Eaves's version, but I also don't think this looks better. But it is not impossible to make a design that looks far more like the TOS version but is still believable as a realistic 23rd century starship.

I love the TOS Enterprise and I always found it funny that some people call her "dated" when we don't have any spacecraft anywhere near that sophisticated yet. When compared to later Enterprises, however, of course she's dated then because that's the way it's supposed to be, IMO--she's an earlier design to those later starships.

All that being said, however, I also love the SNW Enterprise, because she's a solid modern take of the original design. If you accept SNW as sharing more of a general continuity with TOS rather than a visual one, that Enterprise is a pretty cool design in her own right. I just wouldn't waste any time or energy trying to figure out how she later becomes the TOS Enterprise no more than I would how Anson Mount will become Jeffrey Hunter. It's just two different actors playing the same role...

To be fair we don't have anything as advanced as the ships in Forbidden Planet or Flash Gordon either.

Not that I've had this conversation before (lots of times) but the the Disco-prise with JJ surfacing would probably be 75% there for me. Get rid of that impulse monstrosity and give me a BC deck again and you're at 90-95%.

Quite true. The Discoprise is simply not going to morph into the TOS Enterprise any more than Celia Rose Gooding is suddenly going to sport a beehive hairdo.

I will say this, though, since you brought him up. I realize that we only have one episode to go on, but Anson Mount's Pike is so incredibly different from Hunter's version that they might as well be completely different people.

Just to be clear .....I LIKE THE SNW ENTEPRISE. I just think the TOS Enteprise/Constitution is a perfectly good design to use in modern day productions.and I would have liked to see it used...

I love the TOS Enterprise in the context of TOS, but I don’t think it was ever the intention that the design should be adhered to rigidly over time. The first redesigns started to happen in the 1970s with Phase II. To a degree, the Enterprise has always moved with the times in some form.

I do wish they’d make their minds up though. Discoprise in DSC, SNW, I think a ST and PIC S01, but
a TOS Connie in the museum in PIC S03
