NCC -1701 (TOS).....

Yeah, soon as I saw the New Jersey, I let out an audible sigh. I just knew it would fuel the fires of "TOS purist" and those that hate the "new" Enterprise.

I think it was Mathalas middle finger to those who are rewriting some Trek History. Lol

But yeah I was happy to see it I won't lie. There has been very little cross over between Kurtzman Trek and TOS, Berman Era and Picard. Just a couple of references and a Holo Spock head in Discovery....so far...

"Kurtzman Trek" has had two episodes that literally act as sequels to "The Cage" and "Unification."

Just another interpretation.

TOS stands out as an outlier in many different ways. The ship is beautiful, but it does not seamlessly sit with the rest of the ship line up, or uniform line up.

It feels very distinct from everything else.

I love the TOS Enterprise and I always found it funny that some people call her "dated" when we don't have any spacecraft anywhere near that sophisticated yet. When compared to later Enterprises, however, of course she's dated then because that's the way it's supposed to be, IMO--she's an earlier design to those later starships.

How dare you bring common sense into this thread!

Which is kind of funny, if Kurtzman had created a previously unheard of TOS ship using his birth state/date as the name/registry number, I’m pretty sure the canonistas would be freaking out saying, "How dare he! The Fontana and Justman memos from August 1967, most certainly didn't include a USS California NCC-1973 as a possibility!"

Just like there were people mad that the USS Kelvin NCC-0513 was named for JJ Abrams' uncle and had their birthday as it's number.

Too easily countered, as the USS Defiant wasn't on those lists either.

I would think common sense would be to not expect a show produced in the 2020's to look like a show made in the 1960's.

As much as I love the Enterprise as it appeared back then, it's an inescapable fact that it looks very 50's/60's retro scifi. And yes, I know all about Jefferies intentions that everything was internalized, hence the smooth hull and all that. But it still looks old. Blame Star Wars and it's ultra textured ships, if you gotta blame someone.

I, for one, have no problems suspending my disbelief that the SNW Enterprise and the TOS Enterprise are the same ship. They're both The Enterprise.

I don't know. I think Discovery is the outlier. It looks very retro and like it could definitely come before the TOS Enteprise....

I am sure mileage will vary on this one.

For me, TOS always stands out. It never felt connected (yes, I know, subjective judgement). It always felt different from TNG, and the films, and all the other shows that came after it. Just because a show shows a TOS Constitution class doesn't mean it all fits together perfectly. TOS stands out. The uniforms, the ship, the style, all feels like a different world from the rest of Star Trek.

Well lighting and sets were way different back then. When DS9 did the Tribble episode they matched the lighting pretty good which didn't fit with the lighting on the Defiant. Enterprise did a better job with the TOS sets and lighting. They slightly updated stuff and the lighting blended in better with the overall look of Enteprise....

Nope, NCC 1979 is reserved for the USS Pawnee, Constellation Class.

Maybe someday I'll get around to writing my fanfic.

Plus, My baby sister was born in 1979
Alright, fine. She can have it. Ladies first.

On topic: The TOS Enterprise is the definitive version, IMO. But I personally prefer the TMP version. Partially because I just like it better, but also because it allows me to avoid the TOS vs. SNW Enterprise Debate.
