NCAA Football 2008 Discussion - It All Starts Here.

It looks like Oregon will get its starting QB (i.e. second string) back just in time for the USC game. What a welcome back.

Very happy with my Trojans. Based on this game I have to say Mark Sanchez is a definite upgrade over J.D. Booty. There were several plays were Booty would have been sacked for sure, but Sanchez not only avoided the sack but most of the time completed passes, including one for a touchdown.

And Joe McKnight is a better running back than Reggie Bush. He is not as good a punt/kickoff returner or receiver, but he is a better RB (when compared to Bush at the same stage of their careers). He has better instincts and runs between the tackles better. If this team can stay healthy it could be similar to the 2004 Leinart/Bush team. It could even play Oklahoma for a NC.

And I was very impressed with Pryor. He was very good for a freshman playing his 3rd game and on a big stage. USC may have problems stopping him next season with most of their defense gone (up to 8 starters).

USC vs Missouri for the BCS championship .... now THAT would be fun to watch! Except, I'm not sold on Missouri having much of a defense, yet.

Agreed. Sanchez is stronger and more mobile. There were times I was watching Booty and thinking "Are his shoes made of cement?"

Two years ago Herbie said that Sanchez would win the Heisman at some point. He may yet be provben correct ... THIS year.

Still an awful lot of football to play.

Right.

The kid is 4-1 as a starter. Let's not go crazy just yet.

:)

Yeah, there's still that game at Stanford. :D

But seriously, I doubt anyone's seriously annoting him yet, but it's impossible to not like what you see. Moreover, I honestly think that people enjoy it when a highly touted recruit comes in and shows he's for real. Which Sanchez is showing steadily.

Mike Teel shouldn't play another freakin' down, let alone game, for Rutgers.

The guy has never won a game without Ray Rice in the backfield.

Time to audition players for next season. The Knights are goin' 3-9 this year. What a disgrace, considering the personnel they have.

The Ducks lost to Boise State this afternoon. I can live with that, Boise State has had a pretty remarkable program going for the past few years (i.e. beating Oklahoma in a BCS bowl). The most frustrating thing was that Oregon had to play their fifth-string QB for most of the second half. Someone they were hoping to redshirt this season.

There are times when I really hate the spread offense.

The Ducks nearly pulled out the victory again this week, not that it's much consolation. Do you think that spread offense contributes to qb injuries, or is it that because the qb is so central it that injuries become magnified?

The spread offense contributes to injuries, IMO, because the QB has to run the ball a lot and the pass protection is limited to the linemen.

I don't think we've had a QB last the season since Kellen Clemens was a junior, which precedes the implementation of the spread offense.

That does make sense about the spread offense QB being more vulnerable like that.

As for OSU's game today, it wasn' tpretty but I'll take it. Troy won't exactly be challenging for a BCS title any time soon, but they have put a good scare into a variety of 1-A teams of late. Last season they even pulled off an upset. No, the good thing about today is that Terrelle Pryor seems to have taken hold of the starting job with a good - not perfect but still good - starting performance. 4 TD passes (13 yds, 39 yds, 38 yds, 16 yds), only 1 INT, 10-16 for 141 yds, rushed 14 times for 66 yds.

I like watching Pryor. Oregon was the only West Coast team he considered and although the staff here tried hard we didn't get him. But we did make it to his final four.

Pryor is indeed fun to watch. Fluid, fast ... and he seems to be learning patience in the pocket from what I heard today. He may not be worth all of the advanced hype coming out of high school - who ever is? - but he is showing me more and more. He throws a bit farther downfield though I want to see him go more. But he is learning and that's encouraging. Shows he can be coached. Plus, reports are he's showing more and more leadership. I still want to see what he can do against the bigger boys like Wisconsin, Penn St. and so on .... but this is a fun start.

I just feel sorry for Boeckman, the guy he seems to have supplanted no matter what Tressel says. ;) Good kid, faithful 6th year senior... but if he can't get the job done.....

Anyone watching LSU/Auburn?

This is a pretty good game.

That was a great call by LSU on the halfback option.

17-13 going into the 4th quarter.
