1st Clue: We got a Thanksgiving show and a Halloween show. I guess this was the closest episode to be a Christmas themed show even though it was after the fact.
Good answer, but I must declare it wrong. To the best of my knowledge we never see Spock and Kirk shopping together. It is likely that they did, but there seems no mention of it. They do steal clothes together, which comes close and it is likely that they did shop together to get the initial radio supplies. I expected someone to make this guess, but I thought he/she would claim that Edith and Kirk went shopping, but again, there is no clear mention of it in the script.
Clue #2 My guess is that a key plot device in this episode was closely based on the real work of someone who later received a Nobel Peace Prize for his decades of work that led to alleviating famines and world hunger problems.
