2) She is frustrated with Starfleet, appears completely matter-of-fact with the Epsilon War and appears to have no interest in the glory that may arise from her peace-making.

No not Commissioner Hedford, but she did have that great comeback line for Cochrane. No doubt he liked her sourly spunky attitude after that.

Clue #3 Speaking of "a foot on the gas pedal", the slowness I asked for was, ironically, the exact opposite strategy of an adversary that chose to break the speed limits.

Scotty? from Obsession.
1. Scott tells Kirk, "If we keep this speed, we'll blow up any minute now." Kirk eases his foot off the gas and orders warp six.
2. Scott seems to be more worried about the medicine for Theta Seven than hunting/killing the cloud creature.
3. The cloud creature matches the Enterprise speed warp factor for warp factor. The cloud creature eventually outruns the Enterprise at warp 8. When the Enterprise reduces speed to warp six, the creature turns and attacks.

This next clue would have been unfair if given before Scotty was guessed. It applies too well to him, but we now know it is not him.

1) Jones asked Kirk to ease his - perhaps-harsh treatment of him. "Friend Kirk" etc...

2) He is a businessman and finds glory incompatible with his trade. I.e. The Klingons hate Tribbles and they won't trade with Jones.

3) Tribbles reproduce very quickly. By the end of the episode they are his adversary.

4) Eventually he does clear the station of the Tribbles, by TAS.

1. She tries to put the brakes, so to speak, on her relationship with Larry Marvick.
2. Spock is envious of her mission, but her goal to mind meld with Ambassador Kollos is not for Glory.
3. Marvick, instead of breaking off his relation with Miranda, decides to murder Kollos which in turn leads the Enterprise to propel far outside the galaxy.
4. She ends up being accepted by Kollos to finish the mind meld mission.

1) He tells Kirk to slow down with his rush to investigate the quasar phenomenon.
2) He seeks not glory or the desire for scientific knowledge on the quasar, but simply to get the drugs to New Paris ASAP.
3) Kirk's need to slow down is opposite to the plague's out-of-control speed of destruction.
4) It seemed impossible to get the drugs to New Paris with such a small time frame. But in the end, they get there
5) He believes it impossible to rescue the crewmen which delays the mission.
6) No, its Ferris.
7) Largely, after Kirk's ranting, Ferris stays out of the way.

4) In the end, the impossible becomes possible - Elaan accepts marriage to the Troyian prince.
5) Yes, I say it is impossible to Kirk to be at peace with these savages! These people I detest!

7) I stay in Sickbay and sulk.
8) McCoy finds an antidote to the tears I proclaim are permanent.

For clue #3, we have an alternate explanation that Kryton has ultra fast reflexes, as demonstrated twice in engineering.

And, for clue #6, I was being sneaky and this is a reference to Petri being played by guest actor Jay Robinson who played the role of Caligula in two different movies; "The Robe" and "Demetrius and the Gladiators".
