Oh, I think I have it, but really I probably don't.
In the episode "Tomorrow is Yesterday". The guard catches Kirk and Sulu in the photo room. He then activates the emergency button on the communicator and they beam him up to the ship. That's the character.
Why?
1. Not sure, but maybe beaming people down "is nothing".
2. The guard gets chicken soup in the transporter room, hence "room service".
3. McCoy collects his gun but we know Sulu would love to have that ancient weapon.
4. The transporter is the technology and presto he is beamed up and Kirk says "we have another problem".
