Spoilers My main suspects for the anomaly.

How convenient that Vger is trying to convince us it's not V'ger. What are you hiding?! Don't wait for the translation, because this is in English. Answer me now!

As near as I can tell, the only reason people are suggesting V'ger is that it's a massive blue and white cloud-like entity with a disk shape in the middle. But since V'ger turned into pure energy centuries ago, this would kind of be a step back for it.

Given the anomaly seemingly changed course and speed, I fully expect to be some kind of living being, but I agree that it will be something unique to Discovery and not something we've seen before.

You know, it’s funny, I took a look again while my wife was catching up on it, and I can definitely see why someone would think it looks like V’Ger now. I think I wasn’t looking at it that way because the previous scene had indicated it was two black holes.

Maybe one of the black holes is the thing that people USED to call a black hole that V’Ger fell into. Now that’s a theory worth entertaining…..

After finally having been able to watch the first two episodes on Pluto.tv this evening, i have the impression that the anomaly could possibly either be

1. V'Ger
2. Nagilum

Thoughts?

It's not V'ger and it's definitely not some space monster from a very forgettable episode of TNG.

But I do think it is a lifeform

Even if it's not Nagilum, it's interesting how much his conclusions about humanity resemble how Rillak apparently thinks about Burnham:

And there's that at the end of "Where Silence Has Lease":

Nagilum was one of the most forgettable villains ever. To link him to DSC S4 would be ridiculous. By that logic, Lazarus might as well be the reason for the anomaly.

But there's also another issue that makes it not totally unlikely that Nagilum could be involved. Remember Tilly's conversation with Culber, in which she mentions that there might be something “wrong” with reality….

The first doubts of her were apparently caused by Saru, who seems to be larger than before.

I think at the very least they really are in the 32nd century. How else could Culber know about Picard and the Soong Method for example?

By the way, considering that the producers compared the anomaly to the world wide situation, because of covid, wouldn't that make Nagilum, if he has no bad intentions this time and simply wants to contact the Federation, a metaphore for unvaccinated or ill people, endangering everyone around them

After two episodes, I'm in the group that's leaning towards entity. Probably not intelligent, but it could be that Discovery showing up and poking around is what made the thing turn left and that could be something they can use later.

This is nothing at all like what Rillak said to Burnham. Rillak clearly thinks of Burnham as highly competent otherwise, she would not have been on the Voyager shortlist. Rillak just thinks that Burnham needs more experience in certain areas.

I think it's going to be it's own thing, but it would be cool if it was Nagilum. Also Lazarus is a neat suggestion. Thinking of Suspiria/Nacene as well. Would like to see them do something with the Na'kuhl or a return of the Sphere Builders. I woudln't mind if it was the God Entity from Star Trek V, or the Alterity-synth 'god (s)' from Picard Season 1 either.
