My journey in Deep Space

I just got back from Las Vegas and The Star Trek Experience. That place exceed all my expectations. I met some awesome people there and I'm really sad to see it go.

"Armageddon Game"

"O'Brien and Bashir help two warring races dismantle their deadly weapons, unaware that the aliens intend to execute them and have already informed Deep Space Nine of their deaths."

For a bio weapon that was that strong it was rather easy to find the cure.

Boy do I already miss the Star Trek Experience. I'm getting teary eyed just typing this.

Armegeddon Game was great. Loved the interaction between Bashir & the Chief, especially the way Bashir goes "on lookout" and quickly tires of the job and decides to start blathering on about his ballerina girlfriend instead while O'Brien is trying to work. :D

"Whispers"

"When O'Brien returns from an away mission, he finds that the entire crew is treating him strangely, including his wife and child. He suspects that the crew has been altered somehow, but in fact he's the one who has changed."

I didn't see that one coming at all. Simply a fun episode.

"Paradise"

"Sisko and O'Brien crash on a planet settled by humans who have rejected technology, led by a charismatic woman who isn't quite honest with her followers about the price for their corner of the galaxy. When she attempts to keep Sisko and O'Brien there, they expose her."

I liked this episode. The idea that technology isn't always better had me thinking. I've just graduated college and I have no idea what I am supposed to do. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad living a simple lifestyle. Sisko was great in this episode. I really looked up to him the entire episode. Great performance from Brooks.

This is one of my favs, an interesting puzzle from start to finish.

I'm so glad you're back. This is honestly my favorite thread at TrekBBS.
I only wish I could have been in Vegas longer. Except for the first night I was there, I went to Quarks every single day. Although most most of the shops were closed, that place looked exactly like the Promenade and I felt like I was in the Trek universe. The closing ceremonies would have been fun although filled with sadness. Boy, am I dying for a Warp Core Breach right about now, I'd even settle for a Romulan Ale.

"Shadowplay"

"Odo and Dax visit a planet whose inhabitants are mysteriously disappearing. When they investigate, they learn that most of the people, including a little girl with whom Odo becomes close, are actually holograms."

Again, I really liked this episode. The main story really hit me. I got choked up when Rurigan basically lost his entire life and didn't even seem to care. Odo's speech to him raised all the interesting questions without giving any answers, where I feel a TNG would have given an answer.

Again another small mention of the Dominion, great foreshadowing going on, not as good as Babylon 5 but I feel that B5 was better planned out.

I enjoyed the subplots. I was reminded of the season 3&4 eps of B5, where the subplots purely exist to move characters forward. This seems like a good first step in the eventual serialized story arc that I know DS9 is going to take.

Episodes like Shadowplay tend to get overlooked. But it really is an excellent, emotional episode.

When the uninitiated think of 'SciFi', the cliche is space ships and lasers and whatnot. But to me, it's episodes like Shadowplay that keep me so interested in the genre.

Anyways, funny you mention foreshadowing; You're entering my favorite part of the entire series. And B5's second season is my favorite of that series for much the same reasons.

"Playing God"

"Dax discovers an embryonic universe developing on - and threatening - the station, the same week when she must evaluate a Trill seeking to be joined."

Fascinating look at Trill culture.

"Profit and Loss"

"Quark is reunited with the great love of his life, a Cardassian woman who is now a fugitive. He helps her escape, in a very Casablanca-like story."

Who knew Quark would have a love interest?

Wait till you see the next two episodes in the trilogy. It was an awesome way to kick off Season 2.

I've just started a virgin DS9 voyage also. I'm just past the S2 opening trilogy.
S1 was pretty good, blows away TNG's S1.

Homecoming-Circle-Siege was a nice leadoff. It's so enjoyable to have Trek episodes in serial like this.

Just watched "Invasive Procedures" last night. Thinking back over it, it was probably a low budget episode, other than some Odo FX, it was shot almost entirely in the Infirmary and Ops. No big Promenade shots, nothing in Quark's I don't think either.
This episode I think really connected in the acting sphere. Everyone had good, convincing moments. Sisko kicks a Klingon's ass, that's good stuff. The guest star who plays Verad does a convincing transformation.
It ends with two questions though:
a) did Verad die after the symbiant was removed?
b) what kind of hot water does Quark get in for the security breach?

a) did Verad die after the symbiant was removed?

No, a host and symbiont have to be joined for.....I think it's 92 hours, before it becomes irreversible.

Oddly the show never highlighted this, despite the obvious story potential. One of the novellas in The Lives of Dax does, though.

"Blood Oath"

"Jadzia decides to fulfill a bargain Curzon made with Kang, Koloth, and Kor to kill another aged Klingon, even though her future as a Starfleet officer may be ruined if she survives."

Now that is how you use cameos. I love Klingon episodes and this one was done with the perfect amount of nostalgia and use of character to make it a classic. This was by far Dax's best episode to date. Hopefully she gets more to do soon, I really started to fall in love with the character in this episode.

If I had a day off from work I would marathon it. But since my job sucks I have to wait till Wednesday for another day off.

"The Maquis Part 1"

"Sisko's old friend Cal Hudson reveals the existence of a terrorist group known as the Maquis, whose goal is to retake the Demilitarized Zone from the Cardassians."

I know this episode was used to set up the Maquis for Voyager. If I remember correctly, the Maquis were never really used that well on Voyager. This episode had an epic feel to it. The story felt very real and what it would be like to be out on the "frontier."
