Vice Admiral
After reading and absorbing what has been happening in the Marvel Universe, along with the constant re-runs of X-Men: the Animated Series on television, I started thinking about something in the Marvel Universe. And that's how vast and open it is. Earth is just one small planet in a spectacularly large universe. Just think: the Shi'ar Empire, the Skrull and Kree Empires, Galactus, Annihilus, Beta Ray Bill, the Brood and probably a dozen or more out there. But think about the word: empire. An empire usually has land (or planets) under the control of one government. The British Empire. The Roman Empire. A large amount of people, doesn't matter if they are all the same or a hodge-podge group from different areas with different dialects and different cultures, they are still ran by one government essentially.
So where am I going with this? Just imagine the amount of species out there untouched. Thousands? Tens of thousands? We saw the Starjammers and Corsair touch lightly upon this, along with other galactic entities but it is ripe for some story telling.
And that's where my idea comes in. A group like the Starjammers but not just located in the Shi'Ar Imperium but running across the different Empires across the universe (or what is left of the empires). Smugglers, treasure hunters, bounty hunters, debt collectors, that is what they are. Mercenaries to the word.
And here my ideas for characters (and yes I do know this is a public forum but because I cannot draw better than a cat having a seizure, there is very little chance of me ever sticking my foot in the door of a major comic book company):
First off is the Captain. I am still struggling to figure out a name and a species but the most important thing about him is this: he has a bond with his ship, which is an Acanti that has been freed from the Brood Imperium (or again what is left). But because of the damage left by the Brood, rendering the Acanti mindless, the captain helped heal the damage but in turn became linked to the Acanti mind. They are one in the same almost. Both can think independently but at the same time, they share a link that transfers emotions and sensory from one to the other.
The second in command is a human mutant. Yes, I know but I still want to tie it in with Marvel's universe in a way. Her mutant power, like Maddox (Multiple-Man) showed up after birth when they tried to put needles in her. Her body forms a low-level force field at all times, almost making it impossible for her to eat, to drink, to hold things because the force field pushes things away. Eventually she got it under control but she continues to struggle with it.
The other crew include Abstract (think the Rock creature from Galaxy Quest), that no one knows if it is one or multiple species since each rock forming the body has a small semi-consciousness that forms a conscious being. You got the engineer who is called Spacedust that generates a small static electric field and also what she calls 'Spacedust' though her crew doesn't know if it is part of her species defense mechanism or a part of her 'mutation'. The Spacedust she emits is when she is under great stress or fear, rendering whoever nearby into a deep sleep. It annoys her crewmates but they have found ways around it. Their doctor, a giant mantis-like creature, believes it is part of their defense mechanism since she has no control over it. The doctor, while large and mantis-like is actually an arachnid type creature named Chitin that secretes silk-like webbing. While fierce looking, the doctor is actually an herbivore, and his silk takes on the color of whatever plants he is eating (usually green or red). Last character is an immortal but not invincible monk named simply Mr. Specter. He does not speak. No one has ever seen his face. No one has ever seen his skin. No one knows who he is but they have heard rumors of his order before they were destroyed by the Skrulls (which had their reasons). He also knows more magic than Dr. Strange but very rarily uses it. He prefers his staff, which is actually a scythe. There is also a rumor that he is one of Death's henchmen but that is dismissed. He almost emits a aura of cold air wherever he walks, much to the annoyance of the doctor and the engineer.
So, that's what I got right now for my idea. I know a little bit of the story and where it's heading. But I think Marvel has an opportunity to do something great after Secret Invasion about all the threats and possibilities in space they haven't touched.
