Must-see, okay, and skippable episodes

Count-Z, understand I really like Love & Monsters. But, to me, unless you've watched a lot of the show, it sort misses the point for the viewer. Just my take, mind you. Others might consider it required viewing.

And people, say what you like about Boomtown, but it not only ties-up Aliens of London/WW III, it ties back to The Unquiet Dead, ties into Torchwood, and sets the stage for the season finale Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways. So, that's the definition of "essential" in my opinion...

Not really. A 'must see' is something that's really good that everyone can enjoy, not a 'you have to watch everything that has come before so it makes sense'.

Ok, enough of this.

All episodes are essential in terms of the show's continuity.

If you're not interested in that, the best episodes are:

SEASON 27:
Rose
Dalek
Father's Day

SEASON 28:
The Christmas Invasion
School Reunion
The Girl in the Fireplace

There are various reasons for something being a "Must-See". Your interpretation is just that, your own... ;)

Ah, I see. But I'm not sure I understand. I've only started watching Doctor Who with the new series and I loved the episode. And I think it's important to cover the whole scope of a show.
I'm curious which episodes RoJoHen ultimately will pick and what he'll think of them.

As part of my attempt to force myself to do more cardio, I have decided to start watching episodes of Doctor Who on my iPod while I jog on the treadmill. However, I'm really not interested in watching all of them. I've seen a bunch of episodes, but I'm not really sure where all of them fit in. A couple of the better episodes I've seen are "The Girl in the Fireplace" and "Blink," as well as a few random episodes involving Daleks and those Robot things whose names I can't remember.

Anyway, not a huge fan of Season 1, so I'd like to only see the really good ones there. If you guys have really good suggestions from Seasons 1 and 2, I'd like to hear them, or if there are episodes that can be completely skipped, I'd like to hear those too. We don't need to worry about Season 3 or 4 yet. I won't be there for a while. Thanks!
If you only ever watch one episode of Season 1, I highly recommend The Empty Child & The Doctor Dances (it's a two-parter).

It's written by Steven Moffat, the same guy that wrote Girl In The Fireplace and Blink, so you're probably going to love it, and it's also the story that introduces Captain Jack.
