Murdoch Mysteries renewed

Yeah, good news. I've greatly enjoyed this season so far, and we have the season finale next week. How far behind is the UK in showing this?

There's an interesting crossover between another CBC show (Republic of Doyle) in 'Republic of Murdoch', and an ancestor of Murdoch's does in turn appear in Republic of Doyle, but that RoD episode was rather unconvincing due to the stark difference in style between both shows and I didn't feel it quite worked.

I feel like we're the only two people here who watch the show...

I love it but I have to wait until each season comes out on DVD in order to watch so I am a little behind. I have only viewed the first 6 seasons.

Ok, so that means you're still on the CityTV/FX production of the show. The show didn't move to CBC until the 7th season :)

The UK is about 6 or 7 weeks behind, I believe. Tomorrow night is episode 11, Journey To The Centre Of Toronto.

Tangentially, I'm sad to hear that Arctic Air has been canceled. While not the best show in the universe (or Canada anyway) it was a good, fun show. Stoopid CBC canceling an expensive show that not enough people are watching. :P

And here I was, awaiting the inevitable Arctic Air crossover ;) Heh, I know what you mean though. It was a fun show.

And as for Murdoch Mysteries, holy hell, that was a heck of a way to end the season on a cliffhanger. Never saw it coming.

As I understand it, the cancellation of Arctic Air and the renewal of MM and RoD are a consolidation that's directly a result of the CBC losing Hockey Night in Canada to Rogers. Hockey is / was the biggest cash flow CBC has, and losing it means they can't retroactively finance dramas with those profits. Drama-wise, I don't see CBC going into anything expensive for a while now. :(

Ohh, good point, Mark! In that case, it should be interesting to see how how their dramas are affected.

And oh yes, I loved that Kung-Fu episode! Some of the best sequences they've ever done, in my opinion. Very physical with a bit of comedy thrown in, Jackie Chan in style. Possibly my favourite episode this season, if not overall. I couldn't help but think it was one of their more expensive episodes!

You are absolutely correct. If fact, there are reports that there is a huge inter-departmental meeting at CBC taking place shortly because the cuts to CBC programming are going to hit deeply.

I saw an article in the national Post as well, but don't see it now.

Murdoch, of course is co-funded by Alibi and ITV in the UK, so it's probably a lot more cost-effective for them to produce, because they're not paying for all of it...

Yeah, true enough. It sure helps that the cost is being shared. I find it to be one of the more underrated TV shows going on at the moment.
