Couldn't they have made a hologram? Photons & force fields.

I'm sure Tuvix didn't want to die, but neither would Tuvok and Neelix have.
And I would assume that they later expressed relief that they were returned to life.

Tuvix and Neelix were already gone. They didn't even exist anymore.
Why does this topic keep coming up?
Because it's an interesting topic and newbies like me haven't had a chance to talk about it.
1. No.1. Did Janeway murder Tuvix?
2. Should it have been her decision without his having a chance to defend himself in a court of some sort? Should she have at least discussed the matter with others, including the Dr. and Kes & Chakotay?
3. Why didn't anyone try to stop her if they thought it was murder? Did they think it was murder? Did the Dr. think it was murder?
4. Why did Tuvix go so quietly?
5. Why didn't anyone hold it against Janeway or ever mention it again?
6. Should it have been a two story arc to address questions 2-5?
Hee hee. I guess so.It's a very hot topic, very sexy. Everyone wants a piece of this topic!
No souls were harmed in the operation.Janeway fixed a transporter malfunction because, science. Yay!

If they did not exist any more they would not have been able to reappear totally fine.
If Tuvix is sentient and self-aware and does not want to die; then how isn't it murder even if his being deliberately killed saves a million lives?
Spock walked around fine like nothing h... I'm going to start another Tuvix thread.
There were no good reason to hurry at this point. The Doctor never said that there was a deadline about getting Tuvok and Neelix back. So if it was a matter of getting Tuvok to his family they could have waited till Voyager reached the alpha quadrant which for all they knew at that point could have been never. Second, there's the judgment of Kes that practically said that she wanted Neelix back and was willing to sacrifice Tuvix to get him. But we all know that she's a selfish insensitive bitch that dumps Neelix (like an old pair of socks) only a few months after this episode. So, what was the point of listening to her in the first place?
No one likes to have an abortion but many would find it easier at 6 weeks than 12 weeks, or even worse 18 weeks. The right thing to do would have been to wait till either the doc finds a way to bring them all back (Neelix, Tuvok AND Tuvix) OR till there's some events that says that the decision must be reached imminently, whichever comes first.

So I take it that you disapprove of this thread. I am very observant that way. years of training will do that to you...
