Mr Robot is Coming.

I noticed to that the in show news broadcasts list E-Corp as Evil Corp. is it really named that in the show? Or is it just how Elliot see's it (and we as the audience look at his view of the world)

The latter. As he said in the pilot, he's conditioned himself to see and hear it that way. And apparently the whole show is filtered through his POV.

Is everyone just binge watching or something?

I just saw 4 & 5...but just realized I missed 3.

So it SEEMS like Mr. Robot is actually real...yet he doesn't seem to have any technical skill...just gathering the players together & motivating them.

And the rest of fsociety -- also real?!

But wondering...is the CTO-wanna be working WITH Mr. Robot as well on some level...he seems to be at the right place with Elliott in a creepy way.

Is that right? This show can be confusing..like the dream Elliott had in detoxing.

You can't trust ####.

Entire groups might be imaginary.

You might be using Imaginary people trying to confirm the realness of other imaginary people.

How Fsociety reacted in that Van, they were like a single organism.

Meanwhile I'm suspect that Angela is the main character who made up Elliot, who then made up a whole bunch of other people.

Ditto for Tyrell and Elliot. Seriously? "I see something in you, I want to promote you into the ruling class of New York." Elliot is a zoned out human twitch held together with duct tape possessing the emotional resonance of moss. Unless Tyrell is "making fun" of Elliot in some sort of Trading Places sort of mean extended taunt, where their "relationship" is most certainly a dream. One of them possibly invented the other, either to escape from power, or to fantasize about power.

But yes, the double bluff has always been possible: Everyone is real.

E-Corp's logo is very similar to that of the late Enron Corporation, which makes for another nice backhanded slap at corporate America, capitalism, greed, etc.

You mean the scene where the fSociety minions responded to Mr. Robot directly when he spoke to them? I just took that as Elliot speaking through the lens of his more confident and direct Mr. Robot avatar. The whole time they were still talking to Elliot, he was just shown standing off to the side as a shorthand to indicate that his alter ego had taken over and to trick the audience into wondering whether Mr. Robot is actually real or not.

They did the same thing in Fight Club.

Holy Crap. I was thinking it would all work out, right until Vera said that last line. That was awful.

Also something I noticed last night. I made hubby pause the recording so I could point it out to him. I love the way they film this show. The dialogue scene on the street between Elliot and Angela--it's film with the characters in the far left corner, with the street at an angle behind them, but the people in the background are all blurred. They cut back and forth between the two actors, rather than doing the simple close-ups or a group shot of the two of them together. The effect is that the characters are small in their world but pushing against the edges, moving--sending your eyes searching for them. I thought it was a hell of a nice way to shoot that, very clever.

I thought this was a great episode, seeing how Elliot can hack people just as well as he does computers. He manipulates, figures out motivations, pushes enemies against each other, all on the fly, in order to save himself. He can be one dangerous little dude, even when he's nowhere near a computer. It was great to see that side of him.

But.....damn. Didn't expect that ending. :(

^ Yes, I noticed that very thing about the framing of the street scenes, too. Your metaphorical reading of it is reasonable.

I think this remains an excellent show so far. It was a tragic ending, a real punch in the gut. The show is capturing the feeling of being in a nightmare very well. Also, so far, they've kept the hacking reasonably plausible, I believe.

Hubby the computer guy pauses this show all the time to check the code. Most of the time, he's been fairly pleased with it.

Yeah, this is a great show. It's so intense and everything from the acting to the style of filming is just... unsettling. I really hope Rami Malek gets some recognition for his performance and maybe even an Emmy nod.

I had a feeling things weren't going to turn out well for Shayla, but that ending was still tragic and difficult to watch, even just when the focus was on Elliot's reaction. I wonder how this is going to change him as he proceeds with his actions against E(vil)-Corp, and whether he can just let Vera go free without trying to get justice for Shayla.

I write code as a hobby, not professionally, but even I am fairly good at spotting TV and movie technobabble (ex. Halt and Catch Fire has its fair share this season). I've been happy with how the tech material is being presented in Robot, there really hasn't been anything that doesn't seem plausible yet, or that has taken me out of the story.

They very often use legit tools (bluesnarf in this past episode) and techniques - particularly social engineering and phishing. Dropping USB sticks in a company's parking lot is definitely a good technique to get somebody to install a trojan.

Brilliant scene where Tyrell and his wife are formulating schemes while she scrubs a piece of clothing (his coffee-stained shirt from earlier?) that subtly echoes the famous "out damn spot" scene from MacBeth.
