I would love Marcus to come back, and technically Chekov was navigation and weapons officer, so that could fall within Marcus' training.Marcus is a great character but she's not going to be at the helm.
Star Trek Beyond already had the "For Anton" text at the end.Checov should be replaced as a character with an "In Memorium" to Anton Yelchin at the start of the movie or back.
...
Star Trek Into Darkness did that long ago when they said Kirk didn't lose a single crewmember since taking command, invalidating IDW's adaptation of "Where No Man Has Gone Before" and other comics in the ST'09-STID timespan.
That particular comic should be overwritten..
Not worth it, to my mind. But it gave us IDIC at the end of the Boldly Go series.
They shouldn't recast or replace Chekov with another speaking role. There are a lot of characters in these movies as it is. Introducing a new one would only take valuable screen time that could go into fleshing out other crew members or the new villain (which is a sore spot for Kelvinverse).
Recasting deceased Anton Yelchin is bad. He's transferred to the U.S.S. Reliant and has been replaced with Lieutenant Ilia.
They did it no bother with Leonard Nimoy, Jeffery Hunter and Majel Barrett.Recasting deceased Anton Yelchin is bad.
Recasting deceased Persis Khambatta is good.
Apples and oranges.Recasting deceased Anton Yelchin is bad.
Recasting deceased Persis Khambatta is good.
Assuming the same cast, given covid-19, by the time a new Star Trek movie opened in theaters Yelchin would have passed over seven years before.Given that the recent passing I feel that his recasting is more touchy than with other older actors.
It still comes across as quite insensitive.Assuming the same cast, given covid-19, by the time a new Star Trek movie opened in theaters Yelchin would have passed over seven years before.
Its business though. If the producers decide Star Trek can't be without Chekov they'll recast, if not they'll either introduce another character of just leave the navigator as an extra, which would be cheaper so is most likely what they'd ultimately do.It still comes across as quite insensitive.
I have no doubt that they'll recast if necessary. I am simply observing possible reactions. And, since there is no 4th film it is an exercise in speculation and nothing else. Its business though.
