Move Along Home

Willieck

Commander
Red Shirt
I have just watched this extremely silly episode again.

You know, it grows on one after a while. No, Honest it does!

I remember sort of liking Quark's role in it. If you could edit out all the hopscotch you would end up with... about ten minutes of footage.

I used to always have that song she sung while hoping stuck in my head, it was always in Kira's "I-don't-want-to-be-here" voice to XD"

I always enjoyed it. I was a little kid when I saw it the first time, and its sense of fun, and all the visuals, appealed to me. Even now, this is one of those episodes that brings back good memories. :)

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! *runs screaming from thread*

Every time I even think of the awfulness that is this episode I get tramautized. Thanks a lot! :(

And I thought I was the only one in the whole world who liked it :D

I always liked it. It's silly, but does every episode have to carry a serious message?

Not at all, which is why Fascination ranks #1 on my Guilty DS9 Pleasure episodes!

To be honest, I believe it was one of the original reasons why I didn't give DS9 a chance when it first aired.... but over the years, yes I did learn to appreciate and enjoy the episode...... especially at the end when "It's just a game."

One of the good things about it is that it shows Quarks compassionate side. When he finally realizes that the game pieces are crew members he starts showing more concern for them than for the jewels he is gambling for.

Of course not, but I found "Move Along Home" to be beyond silly, it's actually absurd in the worst sense of the word. And that song they're singing while hopping, plus the very fact that the main characters are shown jumping around and singing a ridiculous song, is just unbearable to me. Watching that felt even worse than watching Kirk on all fours in "Plato's Stepchildren".

I've always liked this episode for a number of reasons but mainly for the last line in the episode "It's only a game"

Can absurd be used in more than one way ?

I thought that the hopping and singing was supposed to be embarrassing for the players in the same way that at Christmas for instance we sometimes have to do embarrassing things at parties. Don't forget, it was a game.

The situation in Plato's Stepchildren was totally different in that they were being manipulated by a sadist.

Same here. This was one of the eps that led me to give up on the show, even though I did check out an episode about once a season.

Just recently finished watching the entire series with my son, who was curious about it after seeing all of TOS, TNG and ENT. It seems I did give up on it too early, but still can't stand the episode in question.

Now, if I can only talk him out of wanting to watch all of Voyager.

Well, there is positive or meaningful absurdity, in the absurd theater, for instance, where an absurd situation is used to convey a message. In "Move Along Home" I found it to be gratuitous.

Besides, I was merely expressing a personal opinion. The embarrassing things we do at Christmas parties can be fun, but the game that the characters had to play in this episode was, in my opinion, too embarrassing. And there was no Christmas party to justify it.
