I remember sort of liking Quark's role in it. If you could edit out all the hopscotch you would end up with... about ten minutes of footage.
I have just watched this extremely silly episode again.
You know, it grows on one after a while. No, Honest it does!
I always enjoyed it. I was a little kid when I saw it the first time, and its sense of fun, and all the visuals, appealed to me. Even now, this is one of those episodes that brings back good memories.
I liked the episode when I first saw it. Guess I'm the only one.

It fits...this is, after all, the same Quark that later on got cold feet about gunrunning.
Of course not, but I found "Move Along Home" to be beyond silly, it's actually absurd in the worst sense of the word. And that song they're singing while hopping, plus the very fact that the main characters are shown jumping around and singing a ridiculous song, is just unbearable to me. Watching that felt even worse than watching Kirk on all fours in "Plato's Stepchildren".

I've always liked this episode for a number of reasons but mainly for the last line in the episode "It's only a game"
Can absurd be used in more than one way ?
I thought that the hopping and singing was supposed to be embarrassing for the players in the same way that at Christmas for instance we sometimes have to do embarrassing things at parties. Don't forget, it was a game.
The situation in Plato's Stepchildren was totally different in that they were being manipulated by a sadist.
Same here. This was one of the eps that led me to give up on the show, even though I did check out an episode about once a season.
Just recently finished watching the entire series with my son, who was curious about it after seeing all of TOS, TNG and ENT. It seems I did give up on it too early, but still can't stand the episode in question.
Now, if I can only talk him out of wanting to watch all of Voyager.
Well, there is positive or meaningful absurdity, in the absurd theater, for instance, where an absurd situation is used to convey a message. In "Move Along Home" I found it to be gratuitous.
Besides, I was merely expressing a personal opinion. The embarrassing things we do at Christmas parties can be fun, but the game that the characters had to play in this episode was, in my opinion, too embarrassing. And there was no Christmas party to justify it.
