In fact if I had my choice, XI would have started on its own merrits. No Nimoy. Just reboot and go from there.

Epecially when JJ promised fans that his production team had a respect for the weight of ST continuity over 40 years. Inventing a reason to raise Kirk from the dead would not be respecting that continuity. Fans would say it reeked of lack of faith in the new script.

Or a Fight Club-esque single-frame shot of Shatner randomly placed somewhere in the movie.

Two of the three threads begun today on this topic were started by RobertScorpio. He's new here, having registered on the 20th. I'm afraid this will happen over and over again with new members that are drawn to the board because of the movie.Corran Horn said:
I wish people would give it a rest with the Shatner stuff already.
We're all tired of the topic. JJ Abrams is REALLY tired of the topic. Unfortunately, it's new to the n00bs. All we can do is welcome them to the board and politely say, this topic has already been exhausted.
Then the canon freaks would burst in, guns a blazin', screaming "J.J. Abrams violated teh CANON, and therefore raped me!!1!!1!one!"RobertScorpio said:
Sorry folks, but Generation wasn't a big hit. I like the movie, I think it is the best TNG movie, but in reality? Not to many people outside of TREK would have even known he was dead. Ask your moms/dads, if they haven't seen it, or any of your 'normal' friends at school/work? I bet maybe 2 out of 10 will even remember the movie, and that he died in it.
Yes, I know...we are all 'normal' on this board as well. But you know what I mean. I mean 'non' fans. And based on recent STAR TREK tv ratings and movie Box office (or lack there of) I am willing to bet there are far more people who are not fans than who are.
