Wow!!
Does anyone else think that the bridge looks a little more advanced than the series this movie is supposed to be PRE-dating. I hope there is a reason for that becouse IMO it really ruins a prequal when they make that mistake.

I agree, while it looks great it ruins TOS. Just way to advance. Unless this is a reboot

I really love the casting. Especially looking forward to seeing Urban as Bones and Pegg as Scotty.

Visually it's a bit of a hodgepodge though. We've got a crew in 60s uniforms standing on an early 80s looking bridge, plus a villain who looks like he just stepped off the set of Star Trek: Nemesis.

What's funny? It does remind me of Buck Rogers. The pristine white, the glass, the bright lights. It has that kind of look.

Funny, when I first saw of it first thing I thought of was the Star Trek IV Bridge...now that was bright white!

Edit: for that matter it also reminds me of the concept art for the Phase II Enterprise as well

Well I find it funny and :wtf: that someone would call it 80's looking and reminiscent of Buck Rogers...

If that what it is to your eyes then that's cool. :shrug
I just don't see it.

The biggest surprise here, to me anyway, is how faithful the uniforms are. It looks like they've decided not to use the gold sleeve stripes to designate rank. And the fabric texture reminds me a bit of Brandon Routh's costume in Superman Returns. But other than that, it's like 1966 all over again.

Something I've been wondering for quite a while now is what the reasoning behind keeping the uniforms so close to the originals was, given that they're changing the design of so many other elements rather drastically.

When I saw the bridge I wondered about that in regard to the uniforms too. I think it's because the uniforms match the design aesthetic of the bridge: bright, fun, futuristic. Similar to the spirit of Star Wars actually. The antithesis of the new Battlestar Galatica's tone which is completely of the post-9/11 sensibility.

I don't want to steer this in the political direction but I have to agree with Quinto that this movie is more embracing the spirit of change from what we've had for the past eight years with ST XI moving away from "dark", aside from Kirk's uniform.
