Wow!!
Does anyone else think that the bridge looks a little more advanced than the series this movie is supposed to be PRE-dating. I hope there is a reason for that becouse IMO it really ruins a prequal when they make that mistake.

Prequels always look more advanced than the original.

...now I'm confused. Am I the only one getting the entire thread stretched by
beaker's first post? The bridge and Sulu pics are next to eachother, so the thread
has been stretched to hell since post one.

That's why I said "mostly".

Seems there was a problem with a line change command being missing after one of the pictures.

Beaker sized them right, but with two side by side...

Yeah, that happens for some people using IE. A hard return after each image in the OP would sort it out.

Now which one would like to see in a multi million dollar movie. The funky retro sleek looking version or the soap box version.

I like the old chair better.

At least we FINALLY know that Scotty isn't black like some of us feared.

???

Simon Pegg as Scotty was announced many, many months ago.

And incedentally is as pale blue and strawberry blonde as any other white bristish guy he can get. Hes as black as.

Where the hell did this black speculation start, ive missed it somewhere.

In those heavily photoshopped promo poster images where each member of the crew
is in a quadrant of the delta shape, some people thought Pegg looked black. I
never thought he looked black, but the heavy red photoshop recoloring confused
some people.
As explained, the "Scotty is black" thing started months ago with the second round of poster images, and it got way out of hand. I'd rather not go there again.

EDIT:

I've inserted spaces between the images. Hope this takes care of it.

The new chair ain't bad. The old chair looks a bit too much like a painted cardboard box to fly in the new movie. Though I love it dearly, the old chair is the weakest part of the old bridge in terms of believability.

Yes, thanks!

I think the new chair looks cool as hell... but I think the old chair would work onscreen if they gave it the appearance of being made from a heavier steel-type material.

I have but one objection to the new chair: no armrests. If you look at the original, the armrests were stained dark brown, and Kirk could safely rest his arms there without any fear of accidentally leaning on the shipwide intercom, or activating the captain's log while telling Bailey off. This new captain's chair is almost perfect, but it needs safe space for the captain to rest his arms.

I'm definitely looking forward to this movie. Trek needed an outside perspective, and I'm glad they chose TOS era. I will miss the 60's vision of the future though.
Why? Its still there! You can watch it whenever you like. :techman:

As for the new chair - is it just me or are the armrests too far apart to be terribly comfortable?

Yes, it looks like Pine has to do some serious leaning and can only rest one arm at a time. They should extend those arms inward slightly maybe.

The leaning I see. But as for space to rest his arms, he has it.

Look closely, all the controls are on the front end of the arms so he
can rest his arms and have the controls at his hands.

You think maybe its because this movie cost $150 million and was filmed in 2008, and not 1968?

RAMA

Yeah, that's a problem my wife had with the Star Wars prequels and the first thing out of her mouth when I showed her the new bridge.

WTF people, they're spending $150 mil on this one, what did you expect? Plywood and old-fashioned Christmas tree lights?

Shit, my cell phone from Verizon looks more advanced than Kirk's old communicator.

And can almost carry out all the functions of his tricorder
