"Kumar, you're an asshole in any century!"

Interesting photos. I'm trying to really reserve judgment until I see the actors acting. But my initial reactions...

I don't see much of a resemblance between Shatner & Pine, even with the morph.
Quinto looks like Spock, but so much of that is the Vulcan make-up.
Urban doesn't really look like McCoy but I give him props for not looking at all like himself.
Pegg as Scotty is the closest physical resemblance, although that scowl is still trademark Pegg.
Saldana is a very good Uhura likeness. I only wish they had tried to match her hairdo with something we've actually seen Nichols do on the show.
Other than being Asian, I don't think John Cho looks a thing like George Takei. (He looks more like Garrett Wang, if anything.)
And with Chekov, they're not even trying.

The biggest surprise here, to me anyway, is how faithful the uniforms are. It looks like they've decided not to use the gold sleeve stripes to designate rank. And the fabric texture reminds me a bit of Brandon Routh's costume in Superman Returns. But other than that, it's like 1966 all over again.

Something I've been wondering for quite a while now is what the reasoning behind keeping the uniforms so close to the originals was, given that they're changing the design of so many other elements rather drastically.

Who says they have to look like the original actors?

I just hope they can ACT... lookalikes or not. :vulcan:

From all the work I've seen John Cho can act, Simon Pegg can act, Bruce Greenwood can act, Zachary Quinto can act, Chris Pine can act, Karl Urban can act, Zoe Saldana can act, Anton Yelchin can act, Leonard Nimoy can act, Eric Bana can act and I bet a bunch of the others can too. Based on what I've seen, I'm confident that all of them are more than qualified for the parts they have.

I have but one objection to the new chair: no armrests. If you look at the original, the armrests were stained dark brown, and Kirk could safely rest his arms there without any fear of accidentally leaning on the shipwide intercom, or activating the captain's log while telling Bailey off. This new captain's chair is almost perfect, but it needs safe space for the captain to rest his arms.

I whipped this up quick, it does look like there are "safe" areas on the arm rests.

Looks like the controls are at the front of the armrests.

I see what you're saying, baxart, but have you ever nodded off with your hand on the mouse and accidentally clicked something you didn't mean to? This new arrangement still has Kirk's hand resting across controls while resting his arms in a neutral position. Anything that causes his hands to twitch could launch an ion pod by accident.

Of course, I only remember Kirk nodding off in his chair once, and he wasn't at his best that day, so ...
We come in peace, oh damn I fired a photon torpedo by accident. Symmetry, symmetry, symmetry, just like the old bridge was oblong and shaped like Picard's head was wrong, wrong, wrong and looked like a gymnasium, even tilted downwards. Everybody thinks they're all so much more clever than Rodenberry. When are they gonna learn their lesson. Well maybe world war three will get rid of alot of producers who think they know better.

I actually like what I am seeing so far, I see respect for my beloved old series and a dash of updated newness. I am looking forward to seeing the final result come May.

Though I am a huge TOSer, we must make room for the new too. Most of these designs seem to be respecting the old while giving us some reasonable look updates. Works for me, I always thought the old Viewscreen needed a heads up display :)

I still love the old chair but this new one?? ..Well I would love to have that one in my living room too :)

What you're calling a HUD I think is actually reflected light from some of the set lights (control panels, etc) on the clear glass fronting you can see in front of the screen.

At any rate, someone asked how they could update the old bridge but still be VERY faithful to the original...well, here's one I found a couple of years ago...it's unfinished, but shows how well a purer "updated TOS" look would hold up.

This is true, what I am doing is assuming. If it is a Head's up Display it is a nice touch. Although I can live with it not having one as well, though such a thing does seem to be a tad more functional.

I think that is sharp too, I like the Naval Gray feel to it, it looks utilitarian and functional. Though the crewmen chairs seem a tad uncomfortable with the metal arm rests, it has the look of the old bridge with a slightly realistic feel to an upgrade.
