News More Eaglemoss Discovery Starships

It would not be the first time a Trek ship was turned around or flipped upside down between design and use.
So true, like with this classic:
800

Because when that happens - like with the main Son'a ship in Insurrection - it's a good sign the design is so generic and underwhelming, people don't really know or care which direction it's flying.

Now, granted, it's not an issue if the design is supposed to be very alienating, like, say, V'Ger, or even the Narada. But oftentimes, it just means the design is super generic, uninspired and unclear. That usually doesn't happen to a good design like the klingon D7 or BoP - the functionality of these designs is pretty well given.

Now an exception to that is fliiping designs on it's head: That can sometimes work. The Reliant famously started out as an upside-down scetch of the Enterprise. But IMO it's essential to see a starship design and know where it's front and back is just by looking at it, it's engines, surface openings, and all. If these don't exist, it often just shows the designer put more emphasize on putting his personal shapes on it than actually thinking about functionality.

Pfffff! It’s the Reverse Universe people! A reality where whichever direction an object is perceived to be facing, its actually travelling in the opposite trajectory.

If you thought Lorca’s squinting eyes had a hard time in the Discoverse, Have pity on his weeping ocular cavities when travelling through the Reverse-verse...

;) [wink]

Got the QUGH ship this morning...

This is really weirdly cheap...

They just copied one side and glued it together.
To tell the truth, I'm not even sure which is really the TOP.
This is the way it came out of the box.
(no wonder the previous pics were topsy-turvey) :wtf:

The three very large prongs on the left are definitely the front of the ship.
(the instructions for placing it on the stand say the bulb end is the REAR)

I'm in the process of putting together pics of the booklet, will post soon.

Like all the DIS-klingon ships - with the exception of the BoP - this is essentially a 2D design. Somebody just drew a 2D image, and they copied that for the top and the bottom. It has no height.

Boy, that went well. If only he had said that to John Eaves instead of this guy.
Then John Eaves would have done the same thing, made ships that don’t look Klingon. Just in a different style.

Bryan Fuller said to reinvent. That’s what happened.

You misunderstand. John Eaves didn’t design the Klingon ships. He designed the Starfleet ships. And they look the same as every other Starfleet ship he’s designed in the past. Eaves didn’t reinvent anything.
