Model Kit Building

BTW, the scale of the Reliant is 1/537, same as the refit kit. The box may be marked wrong - they weren't very diligent about the scale in the marketing dept.

Thanks! That explains a lot about what my searches were finding.

I had no idea of a glow-in-the-dark refit

I invented it. ;)

Carrying last picture post over to new page....

Without further ado, Original Connie and Refit with out of this world special effects...

Yep, Glow in the dark.

Been a long journey with these two but time for them to go beddy-by for now

Not sure what I want to do next, I have a long line but here is a recent edition going onto the list somewhere.

Box is dated 1995. I got it already opened so I intend to build it, length of life permitting. lol Not going to add a light kit.

Decal set is present but doubtful they'll work at all so I am going to need a new decal set if available. Does anyone have a good lead for a good set. 1/650 1/537 scale. Perhaps even an expanded set. Amazon, or Paypal payment method only, please.

Cheers!

Advice on decals. Find an unimportant one and test it first. If it holds up the others are probably good as well. If not, overcoat the rest of the sheet with clear. When you get to cutting you'll have to cut as close to the printing as possible, but this technique will salvage a bad sheet.

Wish I hadn't had to learn this lesson the hard way.

Ta-da!

It is a little unfinished. I got one of those extra decal sets and it took a long time, made me tired of working on it. I will finish the little omitted details someday... I have another of these kits to do the ST 6: Excelsior NCC-2000. Saving some of that decal set to use there, but not for a while. Or I may investigate what it would take to adapt it into the Generations Enterprise B, if at all possible...

Thank you for coming to this unveiling.

I'm rusty on model kits, but personally I would try printing my own decals on transparency film if the ones with the kit don't work.

There was a little bit of learning curve concerning the GITD paint and the decals.

Lessens learned on the original caused them to show better on refit.

When placing url's for photos are there limits to size or other parameters? I tried placing a few and all I got was a place holder.

I had that trouble too, at first. I asked and @Locutus of Bored waved a magic wand of some sort, then still images worked. Let me check the PM exchange...

I cannot find it now. I am sure I saved it for future reference but, nope.

Sorry I cannot be more helpful. I tagged @LOB above so maybe he'll be along...

URLs to pics hosted at a dedicated image hosting site that allows hot-linking shouldn't have any file size or dimension restrictions here as far as I am aware, besides whatever the hosting service allows you to upload.

Are they like a 15,000 pixel, 35MB monster-sized photos or something? There may be some previously unencountered (by me) Xenforo board software restriction interfering then. The technical admin, @EricF would be better equipped to answer that than I. I've seen people post some billboard-sized photos here in the past.

Could also be a scripting issue. Like if you have NoScript or Ghostery or similar add-ons to prevent unwanted scripts from loading on webpages. If you do, pull down the right click menu on the add-on and disable it on TrekBBS, or try and find the individual script that corresponds to your photo host. Those are not ad-blockers, so you don't have to worry about violating the rules or anything.

A couple good free photo hosts that accept large file sizes are Imgur and ImgBB. You don't have to register, but it's quick and easy, and gives you additional functions not present in the unregistered versions. I've used Imgur for years and it's been great.

ETA: Check the URL of the links and see if it says .gifv or .webp. The former is a gif video (highly unlikely you were using a gif, but just in case), and the latter is Google's native image filetype, which is a pain in the ass and incompatible with a lot of sites.

If you want to PM me the links themselves (and if they work) I can upload them to my Imgur account and post them for you if you like.

I hope these help you.

I don't think that solution would apply to Nomad's situation though since that was regarding trying to post a gif image hosted on Imgur but accidentally posting a video gif (.gifv) link instead. He's just trying to upload a static image. I suppose it may be a static gif accidentally posted as a .gifv, but it's probably a jpg or png or something like that.

I still have the PM if you ever need the info again. :)

Thanks for helping out, @Locutus of Bored! Looking at your deleted post, @Nomad V, the problem is actually that you didn't share any image URLs at all. They are the ones ending in .jpg, .png or .gif.

You can either share them as text links without the [ IMG ] tags around them and link to the images off-site, like this:

https://ronaldbowers.smugmug.com/Plastic-Models/i-qt3WNQb/A
https://ronaldbowers.smugmug.com/Plastic-Models/i-THh9r53/A
https://ronaldbowers.smugmug.com/Plastic-Models/i-tdscK3c/A

… or you can use the actual image links ending in *.jpg (if you don't see them, right-click on the image and chose “Copy Image Link”) and put them in [ IMG ] tags here, like this …

(All of this is assuming this is your private websapce and not someone else's whose bandwidth we'd be stealing now. If this isn't your webspace, you can use an image sharing site like Imgur or ImgBB to host the images and link them here.)

Hope that helps. :)

Thank yo so much. I took them off the smugpage and I copied the link that sent me to the jpg. I will see how that issue can be resolved. I imagine it will be simple and thank you again.

Dang am I jealous. I have a vintage unopened Generations B I paid nearly 200 bucks for and I am itching to rip it open.

I have one more Excelsior to build, as an NCC, this time, to help scratch that itch temporarily but I fear for that kit's future as a collectable.

I need a cheap E-B kit to build to fill that hole with.

I know, I have C that has been in my stash for 10 years or more. Same with the TOS Enterprise that has the internal view.
