Giancarlo Stanton hits 300th HR; fifth fastest to mark

He did it in 1,119 games, making him the fifth fastest to hit the milestone behind Ralph Kiner, Ryan Howard, Juan Gonzalez and Alex Rodriguez

I imagine he's #1 in the "total amount of feet" for those 300 dingers? I can't find anything, maybe @Timby or one of you knows a site that lists something like that.

Baseball Savant might have that information. According to their site, Stanton’s average exit velocity (93.7 mph) is higher than that of Howard (91.5 mph) or Rodriguez (90.9 mph).

Edit: Stanton’s average home run distance is down this season (405 feet) but was at least 418 feet between 2015 and 2017, which put him in the top ten in all of baseball during that span.

Ohtani returns to the mound Sunday...which is a shocker to me because I thought he was going to have Tommy John surgery during the off season. I fear they're going to break this kid, even if it's on his insistence.

The Phillies have won a nail-biter in walkoff fashion thanks to Asdrubal Cabrera. Two more games left in what should be a fun series against the Cubs.

Donaldson to PTBNL and he is activated for today's game.

This is a trade the Jays should've made last summer if they were going to fully re-build, but the worst part, at least for Jays fans, is the seemingly messy divorce between him and the Jays. He quickly became my favorite player during his time in Toronto with his heart and skill and to see it end acrimoniously is not what any of us wanted to see.

After this and the comments during the Osuna trade that Atkins was not dealing in good faith, my "give them a chance" attitude on Ross Atkins and Mark Shapiro is all but gone. I don't want to have Vlad Jr. and others brought into an environment that they will bolt from as soon as they can because of the way they run the team.

Could be. The Cubs have to hold off the Cards and Philly is closer to winning their division than the wildcard.

Yeah, I have a strong feeling that the Cubs' best shot at the postseason is one of the wild cards.

Dawg, I was telling you this as soon as Shapiro was hired: He was explicitly hired to cut costs. They traded Donaldson because they were terrified he would accept the QO.

Javy Baez, 30th home run, 100th RBI. Who'd a thunk it?

Other Cubs middle infielders with 30+ HR's, Hornsby, Banks & Sandberg. Good company there.

ETA: Kyle Schwarber is 2nd in the NL in outfield assists?

Who are these guys?

I just want Baez to learn how to draw a walk.

Not too many "perfect" players out there. I'll take Javy as is (free swinging), with the power, the .300 BA, the defense, the sliding & tagging. So what if his OBP is only .331? It's other guys' jobs to get on base and Javy's job to drive them in....apparently.

I just never figured him to be an RBI leader (tied for 3rd in MLB). But he's still only 25, and every year some part of his game has improved drastically. He might get a few more walks in the years to come, but as long as the rest of his game doesn't suffer, I don't really care either way.

^Impressive series for Cubs, but not so for the Phillies. While I’ve not yet written off this season, the Phillies are running out of time to catch the Braves, who now have a four-game lead with four weeks left. More and more, I’m convinced that Kapler’s over-reliance on analytics is contributing to his team’s woes, as the lineup changes every day, and no one in the bullpen has a defined role.

Analytics clearly have a place in baseball, but I don’t think every decision should be driven by data. Ultimately, players need to have a feel for the game. Javy Baez clearly does. I’m not sure if any everyday player on the Phillies’ roster, with the possible exception of Rhys Hoskins (who generally has a good approach at the plate), has a good understanding of how play at the Major League level. The Phillies weren’t supposed to contend this season, but I’ll consider 2018 a wasted opportunity if they don’t reach the postseason.

I don't think I ever doubted he'd do that, but I thought the Rogers owners would still try to field a competitive team to keep people coming and the $$ rolling in.

The MLBPA has a new chief of labor negotiations. Bruce Meyer is not only a labor lawyer with more than three decades of experience, he's the guy who beat both the NBA and NFL in court to win free agency for those leagues' players.

Good to see the MLBPA is serious about getting Clark's mess un-fucked (and I'm guessing Clark is feeling serious heat from the union's executive committee if he hired a legend like Meyer).

You follow this more closely than I, what in your opinion should be his first target?
