Without Werth, we're going to have some serious trouble with lack of Right-handed hitting. I'm still hoping we can re-sign him. If not, I'll give him a round of applause. That guy really stepped up big over the years.

I really think he will be roaming the red sox outfield next year. They need a bat and he would fit their lineup perfectly.

I just can't envision a scenario in which they can keep him. They would need to unload salary, and how would they do that? No one's going to take Ibanez' contract. Blanton is probably also tough to trade, and as a fourth starter he's ideal. Maybe Victorino could be traded, and Werth moved to center. Ugh, it hurts my brain.

Well, the ideal would be to drop Ibanez and we could start Brown in Left Field. But I don't see that happening. As much as I like Werth's power, Shane is the better clutch player. I'd rather keep him.

Ugh, if we were the Yankees, we wouldn't have to think about things like this :p

A-Rod Finally Leads Rangers To World Series

ARLINGTON, TX—Ten years after signing a record $252 million contract to play baseball in Texas, third baseman Alex Rodriguez finally delivered for the Rangers by leading the franchise to its first-ever World Series. "A-Rod came up big for us this entire series, all the way up until the last out," Rangers manager Ron Washington told reporters during a postgame press conference, saying that the Rangers would have had no chance of beating the New York Yankees without Rodriguez's remarkable performance at the plate. "It was a long time coming, but you have to give the guy credit. He was the Rangers' MVP, no question." Washington added that seeing Rodriguez take Texas to the World Series was one thing, but A-Rod almost single-handedly beating the Yankees was "extra sweet."

I'm not sure that Brown is ready to be a full time MLB player. Of course, once Werth came back from his brief injury we barely saw Brown. There's really no way to judge him based on a smattering of pinch hit appearances. I look forward to seeing his progress in winter ball. Personally, I like Victorino's attytood. The guy's a gamer, and the team needs some guys with emotion to counterbalance Utley's ice man routine.

a Yankees team with a pretty great pitching staff.

It shall be interesting.

Beyond Sabathia the Yankees pitching staff is questionable at best.

I think the Yanks would have been better this year if pitchers went the distance, or at least tried to. This business of using 5 or 6 during a game has got to stop.

BTW, happy birthday Pedro Martinez. What's he doing these days, BTW?

Now there's talk about expanding the playoffs to include more wild card teams. Linky

That would be a mistake. IMHO, there should be only one wild card. IF that.

^If they keep adding teams and more gimmicky play-in games to be wild card number 2, etc. the playoffs will become so watered down it will turn into the NBA, where the season is mostly meaningless.
