MLB Talk - 2010 Season

Well, away we go the the big show!

Interesting, there are some similarities between this year and '02.

The Giants Did it. I don't think it's sinking in yet but the Giants are going to the world series. You want Torture? That 9th inning was torture. Wilson was absolutely clutch and Uribe came up with the two biggest hits of the series.

Yeah the Sharks were playing tonight but I really didn't care. The Giants are going to the world series and man does that feel oh so good.

What a bizarre game to end the NLCS. Congrats to the Giants and their fans...clutch hitting feels great when you get it, and you defintely got it.

I personally think the difference in the series was the RBI black hole named Ryan Howard. 4 or 5 RBI from him changes the complexion of the series in a big way. Of course, I'm sure the same could be said about many other players on both teams, but this is a guy who has averaged over 130 RBI for the past few years and he ended the postseason with a big fat 0 RBI in 9 games.

Always liked Pat Burrell, so it's nice to see him win another pennant after the Phils jettisoned him after '08.

I don't want to sound like I'm dogging Philly fans, as it was a great series, but I have a question. What was Howard doing taking that final pitch. You're in that situation, if you're going to go down, at least go down swinging. Who knows, you might foul the pitch off like 5-8 times and something good might happen. Taking that pitch in that situation just seemed so wrong, especially for someone of Howard's Talent.

Agreed. At least throw your bat at it and try to foul it off. You don't take pitches that close in that situation.

^ Can't believe I forgot ol' Russ Hodges' call. :alienblush: :D

Since I *almost* share his last name (minus the S) I felt it fitting to pay homage.

What an amazing game...sure, Sanchez blew it at first but his team rallied behind him and closed it out.

I'm just a smidge intoxicated after a great night out with my good friend taking me out for drinks...all I can say is it made the highlight reels that much sweeter!

Interesting how BOTH championship series ended the same way - called 3rd strike, by two of the game's most dangerous power hitters.

It's hard for me to cheer for either team as they were the teams I wanted to make it all along, in addition to Cincinnati.

The Giants might be able to take it on simply pitching, but the Rangers did defeat a Yankees team with a pretty great pitching staff.

It shall be interesting.

Should be a good World Series. After the teams I was rooting for (first the Twins, the the Rays) lost, I'm glad to see the two I was rooting for in the league championships win.

Not sure who I'll be rooting for now. I'd kind of like to see Texas win it, but I'd be okay with the Giants as well.

Oh, that's not dogging the Phillie fans. I was literally yelling at my TV for Howard watching that pitch. At best, Howard had to realize it was too close to take, and that pitch was pretty regularly called a strike through the whole game. My feeling is that Howard was trying very hard not to K swinging, always a problem for him. But what is NOT like him is basically being willing to pass the buck to the next hitter in the lineup.

Oh well. The Phils have likely played their final game with Jayson Werth, so I'm expecting a couple outfield platoons next year around Victorino in centerfield.

Without Werth, we're going to have some serious trouble with lack of Right-handed hitting. I'm still hoping we can re-sign him. If not, I'll give him a round of applause. That guy really stepped up big over the years.

I just can't envision a scenario in which they can keep him. They would need to unload salary, and how would they do that? No one's going to take Ibanez' contract. Blanton is probably also tough to trade, and as a fourth starter he's ideal. Maybe Victorino could be traded, and Werth moved to center. Ugh, it hurts my brain.
