Well, speaking of A-Rod, it seems he tested positive for steroids in 2003. Thoughts?

for christ sakes! is everybody using roids in the game now? i think they should have a separate section in the hall of fame for cheaters like a-rod, bonds, clemens and the like. btw , i'm a yankee fan! this is just unacceptable! if they were gambling on the game they would be banned for life. but i guess cheating like this is ok!:scream:

a seperate wing, like the Hall of Shame? Players good enough for the Hall, but suspected of/proven to have cheated?

Rose would finally get into that section, too :)

Why should we care about something that happened six years ago?

Because it taints his record. A-Rod was going, and is going, to break the all time home run record. When he broke it, it was going to be the end of the steroid era, and Barry Bonds. Now, when he breaks it, it will be no different then Bonds breaking it.

He is no different now then Bonds, Clemens, etc.

You are a Sox fan, aren't you? I'd have thought you'd be loving this kind of news. ;)

Trust me, as a Sox fan, my first reaction was:
:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:
But as also a fan of the game itself, it sucks, because it's at a point were you cannot trust any modern record anymore.

the players use steroids to gain an edge in their performance.the funny thing is it seems like everybody in baseball is using them and in some crazy way that kinda evens the playing field.not that its right.

Now we know why A-Rod made that idiotic attempt to slap the ball out of Arroyo's glove in the 2004 ALCS - he was buckling under 'Roid Rage.

supposedly he wasn't on the roids in 2004. he tested positive in 2003. i would like to know who the other 104 players are that tested positive.now they are reporting on wfan radio in new york that this report was sealed under a federal court order. so, whoever those three other sources are that verified this story can now be prosecuted for leaking that info.;)

^ I used to listen to the FAN all the time when I lived in NY. I bet they are having a field day with this today.

I feel bad for him. This info was supposed to be confidential and anonymous. I wonder if he has any legal recourse?

I really don't much care who was on what and when they took it. I think its so blown out of proportion. Just give me an entertaining 9 innings of baseball. I don't care if its a juiced up hitter going up against a juiced up pitcher.

As far as the Hall of Fame, let the voters decide the severity of their 'crimes.' Its impossible to compare players over the generations anyway, as the game constantly changes and evolves.

I'll be happy when we have real on the field baseball news to talk about.

A-Rod claims his $252 million contract put a lot of pressure on him so he took 'roids from 2001-03 because he needed to perform.

ESPN article here.

Must really suck to have $252 million be your source of pressure, as opposed to say losing your job and health care benefits and trying to support your family, or patching up wounded soldiers on the battlefield, or trying to talk a nutcase down from shooting everyone in a hostage situation.

you said a mouthful brother!you, my friend" GET IT"! something these prima donna athletes don't.;)

at least he learned from watching other users get caught: DON'T lie about it. Tell them you did it, but it was in the past, and that you had external reasons driving you to try it, and you gave it up on your own.

Worked for Pettitte, worked for Brian Roberts, etc. Bonds, Clemens, Sosa, MacGuire, Palmiero going the denial route? Not so much!

He was a great player before roids and a great one after. Appraently he is being tested more often (in secret) since the 2003 testing--which was legallyl not supposed to be revealed--and he has passed since. Since that time he has reached career highs in most categories. Just shows that even if you take drugs, you have to have talent and perform!

He was just as "pinned" on it as anyone else. When he showed up for the Grand Jury, however, he claimed he didn't even know how to speak English (despite years of interviews in Chicago where he did just fine). It just lessened the impact because there's no soundbyte of him denying it himself.

He gained the same "untouchable" status as Bonds and Palmiero when he went to get a new contract...

His health going completely to shit, years of declining stats and being barely able to beat the Mendoza line in Baltimore didn't help. ;)

angels sign bobby abreu to 1 yr , 5 mil deal. man, their really overloaded with right handed outfielders. think any trades are in the works?

bud selig stated yesterday that he wants to suspend a-rod and invalidate any home run records he might set . bonds as well. too bad the union,s collective bargaining agreement won't allow him to suspend a-rod .selig's a joke. nothing but a pawn for the owner's. he knew all about these results for years!
