Scott Rolen elected to the HOF, will join contemporary era committee selection Fred McGriff. Todd Helton was short by 11 votes.

Good for Rolen, but fuck the BBWAA in general. I'm so tired of the pearl-clutching over '90s players.

I imagine there were a lot of spring training parks damaged by Hurricane Ian. What's the latest on that? The teams that were hit, all have alternate sites they can go to, I assume?

I know the Rays are going to have to train at the Trop because their training park was hit hard....

Whatever works I guess, but that's just a bit to much info there Derek. :wtf: Not exactly like the "slump-busters" that Jim Bouton wrote about. ;)

There was a customer in my store today who had a Dodger cap on, but the logo was backwards. He didn't seem to know why (it was his son's hat). Any idea what this could be, other than a :censored:-up at the factory?

I told him he should hang onto the hat 'cos it could be worth some serious coin one day!

New Era made upside-down hats in 2021 as a promotional gimmick.

Could it have been custom made...at one of those hat places at the mall, as a personal choice?

^ Hmmm. I thought they'd already retired it...

For the longest time, the Dodgers have had an unwritten policy that they only retire the numbers of players who are in the Hall of Fame. I think Jim Gilliam is the only exception.

Toronto Maple Leafs did not retire numbers, only "honoured" them with banners, until 2016, when they officially retired the numbers.

I'm in the minority on this that I don't like retiring numbers. I just don't get the significance in taking the number out of circulation.

The Raiders, Cowboys and Falcons don't retire numbers. The Ravens haven't retired any numbers but some are off limits.

The Marlins have no numbers to retire because they get rid of everyone who becomes good.

The Ravens venerate a guy who was involved in a double-homicide and almost certainly committed much more severe obstruction of justice than he pled to by destroying evidence, though. (His plea was for initially providing misleading statements to the police, but the suit he was wearing the night of the murder was never found, and it's widely believed he burned it or got rid of it in a Dumpster at a nearby restaurant.)
