MLB Offseason 2023-24: The $700 Million Man

Huh. He's only just beginning to show something but I didn't think it was that much of something.

The move from the 12th media market to the 40th doesn’t make a lick of sense for an MLB dependent on local media revenue.

So, do the A's continue to stay in Oakland until the new stadium is built, supposedly by 2028; or do they play at Las Vegas Ballpark, home of the minor league Las Vegas Aviators?

No one knows. Some talk of them playing in either San Francisco or Sacramento.

Because vehicular traffic in one jurisdiction never spills into another and causes headaches there.

My point was that the Mayor is just trying to create headlines, because she's pushing for a stadium in the northern part of Las Vegas, where she actually would have jurisdiction. But because John Fisher has a sweetheart deal with Clark County, she's all mad.

Carolyn Goodman is also the shithead of a mayor who argued that Vegas' casinos should be allowed to re-open during the height of the pandemic, so the Strip could be used as a "test bed" to see if COVID was actually real. Clark County rightfully told her to go to hell.

The team continues to float the idea of playing at LVB, but the lack of a retractable roof while in the middle of the goddamn desert makes that extremely unfeasible.

The long and short of it is this: Nothing about this move has been thought out. John Fisher wants to drive up the valuation of the team with a shiny new stadium (and potentially add a sportsbook to it) so he can sell it and get even more rich when he carks it. The current Las Vegas stadium plan is beyond moronic. It's a shell game to make rich people get richer, nothing more.

One thing I always look forward to when the Super Bowl ends is Baseball is right around the corner. Now how about getting some of these free agents signed or something. Scott Boras ruins the Baseball offseason and it always feels like a Buzzkill.

I don't think anyone wants to pay Blake Snell what Scott Boras wants. Supposedly the Yankees offered six years, $150 million and Boras countered with 9 years, $270 million. Snell has an insanely inconsistent track record and it would be a safe bet to predict a huge regression for him in 2024.

Scott Boras has been the greatest boon to organized labor since Marvin Miller, and it's his job to get every single penny he possibly can for his clients.

Don't blame labor or its representation. Blame the cheapskate asshole owners hiding behind the luxury tax (which is a de facto salary cap) and using it as an excuse to hold salaries down.

One arrest so far in the theft & destruction of the Jackie Robinson statue in Wichita.

If this guy isn't the poster child for inbred white supremacy, IDK what is.

I understand Boras has a job to do. But, any team that gives Blake Snell $270 million should be contracted immediately, as they have no fucking clue what they are doing.

It may have happened on the eve of his free agency, but a 182 ERA+ last season (to say nothing of his fucking 217 ERA+ in 2018), and a pair of Cy Young awards, is nothing to sneeze at. Dude's literally one of the best pitchers in the game and deserves to get paid.
