MLB Offseason 2011

Next year might be the last year of somewhat traditional baseball. Pretty soon they'll just let everybody into the playoffs.

I'm more comfortable with the 6 team playoff format (I wouldn't call a 4 team playoff traditional baseball either). The 15 team leagues with regular interleague play bugs me a lot, though. It's just a move to homogenize the leagues.

I wish the Braves would trade Jurrjens already. He and Tommy Hanson are both represented by Boras. They're rarely healthy, but other teams want them and I think it's better to get something in return for them now instead of both of them walking away and making trillion dollar contracts elsewhere.

Seems like the Marlins aren't the only team going for a uniform change. For their 50th anniversary the Mets are going back to their classic uniform look.

All I can say is it's about fucking time. Maybe they'll actually win some games now

:techman: I like it.

People have been screaming about the black for years. Glad those clowns finally listened. It was nothing more than a marketing gimick. That damned drop shadow muddled up the wordmarks.

What the hell is a livery? Sounds like some place hepatologists grow new specimens. Canadians never cease to amuse me, or most Americans for that matter. First the plastic $100 bill, now liveries. It's kind of like watching your dog do something strange but funny, and then just chalking it up to the fact that he's just a big silly goof. I think Americans view Canada this way. I've never sracthed a Canadian on the belly or behind the ears, but I'd try it some time.

The oddly serifed font on the new unis is not my favorite, and I wish the home hat had the white panels, but it looks pretty solid.

So we have two good back to the past designs with the Mets and BJ's, a horrible reversion to the cartoon for the Orioles, and the Marlins giant mess of swordfish shit.

I am glad the Mariners are bringing back the teal brimmed hat , however.

I don't care for the idea of expanded playoffs, but I really dislike the regular interleague play. With an interleague game scheduled every day, they'll almost surely have to sync up the rules eventually.

Yeah, I dislike interleague play in the first place, but what really pisses me off about this CBA is the way the draft is being absolutely fucking wrecked (and small-market teams are taking it up the tailpipe in the process).

Blue Jays have gone back to their old uniforms too.

And whoever approved that cartoon Oriole needs to be fired. That thing is embarrassing.

In essence, it's a uniform, colour scheme, or paint job. You'll most often see it referred to with regards to vehicles, as in "American Airlines has changed the livery for it's planes."

Incidentally, the Jays video to introduce the new uniforms is awesome. They've been getting really good at marketing the team lately. And I really want one of the blue alternates that Romero and Arencibia are wearing in it.

I'm curious... how much did Canada hate this one?

Yeah, that's what scares me the most.

A lot of people hated the t-bird, but I didn't mind it, myself. I always thought it was better than the angry J.

I don't wan that to happen because I love seeing pitchers hit home runs or lesser awesome plays. There's just something exciting about it.

I still wouldn't be opposed to having AL rules when an AL team come to an NL ballpark though. I've never actually seen the DH rule in effect in person.

I still like applying the rules of the home field. Otherwise, it gives an unfair advantage to the AL team always, since the NL team doesn't have an ideal DH.
